Materialism is usually regarded as a pretty ridiculous stand-point by any smart philosopher, theologian, or free-thinker, padraic. And with good reason, too.

@padriac.. so do believe in a concept of the duality of good and evil? Also do you believe that we are all just matter and nothing more and the brain is just a collection of cells?

To add to that, we run around fucking things and start fights with each other over land. WE FIGHT OVER THE GROUND WE LIVE ON. We find every way possible in which to separate ourselves, then quarrel over it.

Completely wrong.

Contemporary Philosophy is predominately materialist. This is especially true of contemporary Anglo-American (as opposed to Continental) Philosophy. As it happens, there was a recent poll of philosophers organized by philpapers.org. The most relevant item was this:
