Fun fact: In 1847 a doctor performed an amputation in 25 seconds, operating so quickly that he amputated his assistant's fingers, too. Both the patient and the assistant later died of sepsis, and a spectator reportedly died of shock, resulting in the only known procedure with a 300% mortality rate.

Fun fact: Even crazier: The Stermer family fled into the caves of Ukraine to escape the Nazis during WWII, with the women and children logging, I think, 344 continuous days living underground, with a total of something like over 500 days living underground in total. Their story was told in the documentary No Place on Earth which is available on Netflix and is sort of unbelievable to watch. Highly recommended!
