I understand it would be a highly unlikely event, but, if Heaven and Hell were proved real, would it make the world a better place, or send it into panic?

If Heaven and Hell were proved real...?

In that case we need to file a complaint to whoever the fuck designed the place for screwing it up badly and making it into a perverted three storey slaughterhouse in praise of submissive behaviour and bat-shit lunacy.

Pretty much what PR said
If you're not supposed to ride faster than your guardian angel can fly then mine had better get a bloody SR-71.
If they were proved real, this world would be much worse. Everyone would be trying to please their God, the world would get even more politically correct as to not offend God, and everyone would live in utter panic.

We already have millions of shitheads walking around who are convinced that their versions of these places are "real." Thus, such "proof" would have no effect on them....except perhaps to make them even more insufferable than they already are.
I think it would have more effect on us rational atheists than the Christians. They already believed that crazy shit. The rational of us atheists that accept the proof (if it is indeed, proof) of Heaven and Hell would have to live with the fact that either we were going to suffer an eternity of Hell for non-belief/blasphemy, or, (assuming if there were also proof that the Christian God created Heaven and Hell, then "He" would have to exist as well ) rationally, accept that point so we could no longer be atheists. And maybe we would either commit suicide through despair at such a horrible theistic truth or suffer slaving our lives to a bullshit God belief that is now backed up with evidence.

There was quite an interesting column I read once, which argued that the religious don't actually believe what they say that they do, or at least not as fervently as they make out. If they really believed there was a heaven above, and a hell below, they would spend all of their time preparing for it. Sod this crappy mortal existence! There's an eternity of bliss up there with the Big G! That's what they'd say. So, I think everyone, atheists and religious wackos alike, would be affected.

Hell's good company. and if it's Dante's hell I'd have to kill myself just before I was about to die so I could be a tree. |
