Oh, also the fact that men will get their own planet to fill with their harem of women they collect on Earth and women can't get to heaven except through a man. I guess that is just payback because men can't get to Earth except through a woman.

I realise this is from a few pages back, but this statement intrigued me Ace. More so because you said it in this very thread!

Let me explain……

Angel has proven in his ooh so long ramblings in this thread that he is not prepared to listen to reason. EVERYTHING he has said has been either dismissed as psycho babble or just unfounded statements. Oh and before you try and say “No they haven’t” ect ect Angel, I’ve just read all 78 pages of this thread. Not one point you have made has stood up to reason.

If we go back to the days of Galileo, people refused to believe that the Earth orbited the Sun. Evidence was presented but it did not tie in with the religionists dogma. So they accused him of heresy....

Evolution, evidence is there. A good percentage of “Believers” simply don’t accept the evidence.

The dinosaurs, we have fossils. But the brainwashed masses insist that “God put them there to test us!”


Our own knowledge should have already devastated religion, it has not as they simply won’t accept anything that contradicts that 2000 year old story book they love so much.

So my question to you Ace is this.

It won't. It will only take things to the next level. Already religion is under serious threat because religion thrives on lack of knowledge. The more we know, the smaller the need is to jump to a god belief.
We didn't know about the sun at one point. We saw it as a god (apollo) but that belief cannot possibly stand today because we know what the sun is. How it works. We didn't know about the solar system and we even believed that everything revolved around us, but not now. Because we know now.
We don't know how the universe came about and so once again, religion takes advantage of that lack of knowledge and fills in the missing gaps with goddidit...(god of the gaps). One day we may very well know that too. Knowledge is the greatest threat to religion. If an alien race who is far more advanced than us with far greater knowledge, their knowledge would seriously weaken religion. Religion is running out of room and I think it's this that will kill off religion. An alien race with greater knowledge will I believe devistate religion by contradicting countless beliefs.

Religion is weak and getting weaker. Knowledge is what weakens it, why else do religious nuts insist that we do not question?

I totally agree mate. However, I also think that there are those who genuinely will NEVER accept facts, proof and reason over blind faith.

This I think is why we will never see the long overdue death of religion. There will always be those who prefer the old adage, “Ignorance is bliss”

Many theists would say they are only seeking the truth or something along those lines. Personaly, I think it's either fear of death or simply want to belive in something that happens to be more pleasent and happy than this reality.
To be blissfully ignorant about death. Where through your beliefs you go off to heaven and all those who did wrong either to you or others will be punished. Where in reality when you die you cease to exist and those who do wrong just cease to exist like you when their time comes. When you see everything as good, pleasent and happy, then you are delonsional.

It's easy to be blissfully ignorant. To hide away all the bad and unpleasent things and opt for fairyland where all your dreams come true.
If people really think there is some fairland place where god always agrees with you and that bad people really do get it coming to them then I'm open for evidence for such assertions.

Good religion doesn't thrive on lack of knowledge nor is its basis founded on unchanging principles oblivious to reason and evidence. I would welcome interacting with an alien species, if that becomes possible within my lifetime.

I agree that if you see everything as good, pleasent and happy, then you are delonsional. However that doesn't mean there's no room for optimism in this world which is devoid from a lot of skeptics comments I've seen on this site. If you're truly wlooking at an even and realistic view of life you shouldn't assume everything is good or bad, just take things as they are and use them to their most functional. Having an overly skeptical and overly pessimistic (or just plain crabby) nature I haven't found (in my experience) to have a positive relevance to something's usefullness in fact predisposing something's positive or negative natures are both biasing and counterproductive

What has skepticism got to do with pessimism?

And presupposing things is the opposite of skepticism. The whole point of skepticism is postponing judgement until evidence comes in.
