Anybody else aware of this guy? This interview is probably one of the most frightening things I've ever seen, and I have a particular fascination with the dark side of people. I've seen some other death row interviews and most of them are gang bangers or psychos. This guy is different, he killed two people and shot another for no particular reason. To me it's particularly frightening as he shares so much of my own views and lifestyle (including being a nihilist and tramping around south america.) At the end of the day I feel that he is right, that it doesn't really matter that he killed two people. Probably the most disturbing evaulation of my own beliefs that I've ever had to come to terms with. I'd say the real disturbing part of the story starts around minute 32:00

I agree that most things don't matter in the big picture, but then- the big picture doesn't matter much. Most things only matter in the little picture, and that's the one we all live in. That's the picture the victims' families and his mother are living in; he as well, I suppose.

I'm always most disturbed by their human side. I want nothing in common with them and that's never the case. I will say I've seen more disturbing people, what struck you the most by this particular case? That he shared similar views?

I can't say that I think there is much value to life in the bigger picture. Sure we would all be sad if someone close to us passed or something like this but at the end of the day we're all little specs of dust compared to the grand scheme of things. This is why I don't fear death as much as maybe some other people do.

We're all just animals.

I would say this guy is a psycho. I only watched from the 32:00 mark but he speaks about murdering another human being like it's nothing. Zero empathy.

Yeah, I've watched it some time ago. Werner Herzog is a great film maker and the whole series he did abut death row inmates is worth watching. What strikes me more about this guy than his obvious absence of any real motif to kill, is how normal his life had been up to that point.

If you can watch it, I would recommend the interview with George Rivas, leader of the Texas Seven, now executed. Rivas comes over as a soft spoken, intelligent guy. You never would expect someone like this to make a living out of robbing stores. Cause that's what he did.

Anybody can be a killer when placed in the correct circumstances. Exian said it well. They are as human as any of us.

Herzog made a great film about Tim Treadwell who thought he was an 'expert' on Bears until he got eaten by one. Grizzly Man is a fantastic and chilling documentary. A world away from the still brilliant Kaspar Hauser or Heart of Glass.

I don't think I could be a killer. Placed in any circumstance. The closest thing I can think of is protecting my kids, but I would be doing everything in my power to stop the person without killing them. I think, I mean, I have been in similar situations and my thought wasn't to kill the guy, but I didn't really have that option. I guess I may have thought to kill him had that been something that was actually possible. I'm not sure though. I don't think I could kill someone though.
