What IS good, and how do we determine it?

If that ever happens, then you'll see it. But vague handwaving in an attempt to show hypocrisy without ever demonstrating it isn't effective.

I'm just curious, Esq.

I've been here a little over a month and I have posted over 1,000 times.

Have I EVER said anything that you agreed with or that you thought was a reasonable argument for my position?

Ever?

I don't know about Esq, but I agree with you a lot more when you're not posting. Angel
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist.  This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair.  Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second.  That means there's a situation vacant.'

My point was simply to illustrate that just as "Atheists Condone Rape" is a silly accusation, the idea that God condones rape is even more stupid.

Ah, so if someone said the punishment for raping a women should be to get to marry her if she'd prefer being married to being stoned to death, they wouldn't be condoning rape?
If there is a god, I want to believe that there is a god.  If there is not a god, I want to believe that there is no god.

It sounds like Randy is admitting that it was rape or why bring the Sam Harris quote up?

I think Harris was incorrect although he wasn't condoning rape so much as saying that religion was worse than rape. The bible god tells men to take war captives as brides who will then have sex, whether they wish to or not, with the men who murdered their families. Other than the word, rape, there is nothing similar between the two statements. Also, no atheist has ever said that Sam Harris knows the future, can read their minds, is always watching them or exist outside of space and time. We don't claim that Sam Harris is the ultimate good either. The comparison is so stupid that it is embarrassing anyone made it.

It's a struggle to recall one, I'll admit. However, that doesn't necessarily mean that I'm being unreasonable in my assessments; you've committed yourself to some intensely ridiculous positions in your time here.

Oh, wait, no: the Adam and Eve thing. If memory serves you said that wasn't a literal story the other day; I agree with that. See, I'll agree to reasonable things.

I am still wondering why he does not take the A&E literally.

I agree. Atheists can be shown to exist.

But it is in the bible. I guess the bible is stupid then. I agree. See, we atheists can agree with you on some things.

The wrong-to-right disproportion is so top-heavy with you that his disagreement is a clear credit to him. Seriously, Randy, you wave the Bible as evidence to disbelievers who have mostly already read it ... what, exactly, do you expect, if not disagreement?

I know you were asking him, and not me, but I think the only thing you've said that I agree with is that the sun rises in the East.

You did say that, right?

Now, PT, don't go putting words into his mouth.
"There remain four irreducible objections to religious faith: that it wholly misrepresents the origins of man and the cosmos, that because of this original error it manages to combine the maximum servility with the maximum of solipsism, that it is both the result and the cause of dangerous sexual repression, and that it is ultimately grounded on wish-thinking." ~Christopher Hitchens, god is not Great
