Why do gun nuts think they're going to play hero when it's been proven otherwise

RE: Why do gun nuts think they're going to play hero when it's been proven otherwise
Imagine this: A couple of shooters walk into a crowed place and start shooting. A dozen or so other guys whip out their guns and start shooting. The only people who know who they are are the shooters. Most of the other people think that all of the others are the bad guys and start shooting are everyone else. The cops show up and kill everyone. It's going to make for some really great TV.

I know the "only good a good guy with a gun can stop a bad guy with a gun" spiel that the NRA endlessly pushes. I'm only telling the OP that his assertion that everybody with a gun just wants to save the day is not true. It just isn't. Yeah, I have one. I have it for my defense. If I hear shooting inside a store from the street, am I going in? Fuck no. That's a policeman's job. OP's post makes it seem as though anybody who carries a gun would immediately rush in to "save" everybody.

If a situation happens directly involving me, I want to be in a position to handle it. This is one of the few areas we disagree on, Min, but surely you see a difference between me and some agitator like Arpaio.

You know...aside from hanging out here the fact is we really do not know each other.

So you're walking down the street, packing, and from the side you hear "Hey, buddy..."

Do you

a) whip out your gun in case his next words are " give me your wallet?" or,

b) stand there holding a gun on him when he says, "do you have the time?"

c) Turn and say "Yes" while he pokes his gun in your face and says "give me your wallet..."  in which case it is probably waayy too late to go for your gun.

d) Turn and say "Yes, I do" ( or No, I don't) as the case may be, when he asks you for the time.

Decisions, decisions.

I'd hoped that by seeing me level-headed around here that you would assume that I am also level-headed in my actual life too. I see I was mistaken.

To answer your question, I'd turn and say, "Yeah?"

Only a completely irresponsible jack-off would jerk a gun out on someone for no reason. That kind of person is not me and it isn't the type of person I'm interested in associating with.

They somehow have these fantasies of saving the day. Is this just pure right wing stupidity or some of these people really have no concept or grasp of reality? Number 1: a mass shooter will target anyone with a gun. Number 2: People who carry guns are more likely to freeze up in the moment and panic in that sort of situation. Lets not forget their lack of combat training and whatsoever. And lastly, most of these people who are open carry here in my state are white guys who seems like they are honestly trying to compensate for "something else"  Cool  if you're catching my drift....

Or another instance I was at a Walmart waiting for my tires to get changed, and someone who was carrying a pistol in a holster; it was pointed right at me. I then told him and he told me that it's his right and if I have a problem with it I can move to Iran. I swear!!! He actually said that.

You missed out the part where you prove that mass shooters target people who are armed.  It's my understanding mass shooters have very much mainly targeted unarmed people and go out of their way to do so.
Where did you prove that people who carry guns freeze up and panic in situations of combat?
Where did you prove that people with guns have a lack of training?

I'm not specifically on either side of the gun control argument, but I'm just pointing out that you didn't include any proof in your post.

Are you ready for the fire? We are firemen. WE ARE FIREMEN! The heat doesn’t bother us. We live in the heat. We train in the heat. It tells us that we’re ready, we’re at home, we’re where we’re supposed to be. Flames don’t intimidate us. What do we do? We control the flame. We control them. We move the flames where we want to. And then we extinguish them.

Impersonation is treason.

One of my cousins has a rifle that was used in a suicide. Why the cops didn't have it melted down after the investigation is a fucking mystery, and why H. would want such a thing in his house (besides it being cheap at the police auction) is beyond me.
The granting of a pardon is an imputation of guilt, and the acceptance a confession of it.

Appearances can be deceiving.

So would I.

In such a case, if it is a robbery, you're screwed.  Your gun does you no good at all and in fact, if the guy sees it he will probably steal your gun, too.

The problem with being an armed citizen is that you have to be ready to use it.

And before you say "that can't happen...."

I can agree with some of the arguments about people carrying guns.  In many situations I can see where people having a gun (especially an idiot) could escalate things beyond what they should be.   (I had a boss once who seen his ex-wife and the new fling at a bar -  he fired a couple of shots into the ground, and went to jail.   Couldn't figure out why firing a gun in city limits was frowned upon).

However in the situation given, I think that a citizen having a fire arm could be a good thing (if they can keep calm and behave rationally).  Carrying a gun could make you a target, but it could also save peoples lives.   I did notice that the police went in with guns.
