Little kids and sleep don't mix well. The fact that they don't want to sleep is only half the problem. The other half is how irritable and whiny they get when they're tired. If they weren't so obnoxious, I'd say just let them sleep when they're going to sleep, like grown people do.

Yep that's it.  We used to carry the babies round and round the living room while playing scrabble, handing them off at each turn until they finally got so deeply asleep we could transfer them to bed.
