Very unlikely, as New Zealand is known far and wide for our paucity of coyotes and cougars. Smile

Well, if y'all did have said critters, would my reason be classed as "self-defense"?

I've never had a burglar show up at my doorstep here, but I've had coyotes, and have seen cougar tracks.

You'd have to be in pretty bad shape to be taken down by a coyote.

I honestly couldn't say. I know that farmers sometimes get licenses to trap or shoot nuisance wildlife, maybe something like that would apply.

But I think the 'self defense' admonition might be intended to apply to people who show up at the police station demanding a gun license so they can finally deal with that noisy neighbor. (just as guess, as I've never been through the licensing process)

Did you report them? Any licensed dealer -- and all retail sellers are federally licensed -- must see your ID, have you complete a 4473, and he must also initiate a NICS check:  http://smartgunlaws.org/federal-law-on-b...nd-checks/

Your purchase was clearly handled in an illegal manner. Did you report it? Will you be doing so?

I almost sent this in a PM, Thump, but then I thought that the other posters in this thread would find it interesting.
I finally had a meeting with the store manager today.  I took in all my paperwork and the gun.  He was very glad to see me.  He had been wondering what happened to me, because he knew the transfer should have taken place, but all of the paperwork was "lost".  To make a long story short, the store clerk who dealt with me realized that there was one area of store counter space that was not covered by the surveillance cameras.  He tried to run a few scams, was told to conduct all business at the register, messed up, and was eventually caught and fired.  He was so pleased to get all of the paperwork updated for my FFL that he gave me a free box of Federal American Eagle 9mm ammo.   Big Grin  The transfer is now legal.  Thanks for the heads up!

Another jackass with a gun.

I'm sure the chickens appreciated the gesture.  I imagine the coyotes are amused.

Yeah, that's what I'm getting at. When it comes down to it, criminals are much more controllable than wildlife.

Most coyotes are cowardly, but I wouldn't fancy rabies, would you? Oh, and by the way, I have a degenerative bone disease in my hip that greatly impairs my mobility, so that if I did have a coyote around, it could perhaps cause me a little trouble, especially since they rarely travel solo.

I notice you said nothing about the cougars, either.  Of course, it's hard to construct a rhetorical flourish around them.

Is it perhaps more your style to sit on the sidelines and lob irrelevant potshots? Shame, that.  You seem like a smart guy who might have something more substantial to add than this sort of deliberate obtuseness.
