I watched the film last night, without first looking at the trailer:

It's best for horror films like this to just watch the movie and not see the trailer first really. And let me say: HOLY CHRIST - WHAT A RIDE! It was truly scary, and so well made. I nearly considered sleeping with the lights on!
It taps into fear so well. Not just the fear of the unknown - no - but the fear we all have of something bad happing to someone we love while we are helpless to help

If that's the case, I'm watching this tonight. Getting bored of the lame modernized campy "horror" movies.

Let me know what you think of it when you're done! I think it's on par with [Rec], [Rec] 2, Let Me In (/Let The right One In), to name a few good horror flicks.

Saw it quite some time ago, and I agree - refreshing that there are some film makers who grasp that 'horror' means more than just 'chopping up teenagers'. Terrific film all round.

If you haven't done already, you should watch The Haunting. The original one, from 1960, I believe. Horror without resorting to cheap effects. One of the most frightening movies I ever saw.

And a young Claire Bloom didn't hurt the film, either...

I like the way it makes giallo-type use of the supernatural elements. That is, with its own subtly and character, free from the influence of religion, and leaving the audience at the end to wrap their heads around how much of the supernatural they thought was "real" and how much wasn't. Hollywood thrillers/horrors are much less subtle when it comes to the supernatural, and are almost always linked to some form of religion. The Ring (2002) is another example of a good supernatural horror movie - and also a good example of how a remake can grow from the original's ideas (I thought it was better than Ringu - just like I thought Let Me In was better than the original, although the originals were both very good). The Conjuring was also quite good.

I shall definitely give this a watch first chance I get. I just love this sort of premise. In fact, I'm trying to get something on these lines filmed myself, once I can get the talent.
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist. This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair. Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second. That means there's a situation vacant.'

Yep, forgot to respond here earlier. Better than the usual horror movies these days, that's for sure. Still wasn't overly scary enough for me, but I enjoyed the atmosphere of the film.
