RE: A person who needs help.....
Well then,

Welcome Orchid!

Shall we take the remainder of the conversation to another thread?

Looking forward to it!

I'm sorry to laugh at someone who slung such venom at you, Kingpin and Cath, but that's the hardest I have laughed in a long time.

That post was brilliant. Yeah, no psychological issues there. How dare I have suggested it!

Whew, man. Still short on air from laughing.
A Christian told me: if you were saved you cant lose your salvation. you're sealed with the Holy Ghost

I replied: Can I refuse? Because I find the entire concept of vicarious blood sacrifice atonement to be morally abhorrent, the concept of holding flawed creatures permanently accountable for social misbehaviors and thought crimes to be morally abhorrent, and the concept of calling something "free" when it comes with the strings of subjugation and obedience perhaps the most morally abhorrent of all... and that's without even going into the history of justifying genocide, slavery, rape, misogyny, religious intolerance, and suppression of free speech which has been attributed by your own scriptures to your deity. I want a refund. I would burn happily rather than serve the monster you profess to love.

Cath, King, please do not take offence at my harsh comment.
It's not representative of how I feel in general.
This person is non genuine and just plain rude.
We don't deserve that. It's a betrayal of trust which I cannot tolerate.
This person is still a bad person irrespective of his/hers religious beliefs.

On the one hand Orchids says she wants to be free from the religion / God / Jesus, but on the other hand she *knows* Jesus and God are real and definitely spoke to her through multiple (genuine) visions. Why would she want to ditch (her) reality in favour of some ludicrous neuroscience mumbo jumbo?

As a new member, I do feel that some of the more established members' welcomes rather rapidly descended into derision and hostility towards Orchids. I do feel that a little more patience to understand her issue was perhaps warranted.

However, if Orchids is not at all willing to entertain the possibility that 'visions' are in fact hallucinatory products of the brain (what else could it be?!), and will not be swayed on that front, what hope does she have that we can come and rescue her from a God-train that she is firmly strapped to?

I for one would like to hear more, without the ranting and raving. This is, after all, a section of the forum where people are supposed to be attempting, or reporting on, conversion to atheism. I think we could be a touch more supportive. I would rather risk being the victim of theist trolling on 10 occasions, if it means converting just one theist to atheism. The way things carry on on this forum, it seems we're not interested in doing that at all.

So theists provide the only real source of 'entertainment' on a forum like this. What's the point of we just bat them away within the first 10 seconds?

Well I sure gave you one for couple of days but I am pulling the plug, now you need to go and beg else where.

Lol this is hilarious.
"Of course, everyone will claim they respect someone who tries to speak the truth, but in reality, this is a rare quality. Most respect those who speak truths they agree with, and their respect for the speaking only extends as far as their realm of personal agreement. It is less common, almost to the point of becoming a saintly virtue, that someone truly respects and loves the truth seeker, even when their conclusions differ wildly."

The Christ figure you saw, ....was it a zombie raised from the dead?

If so, it may be the same zombie Paul saw on the road to Damascus.

Hi orchids,

This may sound a bit bizarre, but I think you should look into a field of science that you may have a passion about. Unfortunately, the anecdotes about seeing Christ and stuff I think is hindering your sense of purpose in the world. People long for purpose and meaning (well, I don't because I prefer a life without purpose because I can enjoy living easier, but that sides the point Wink. Anyway, NORMAL people long for purpose, and when they struggle to find one they create an artificial purpose in the Lord.

Anyway, the reason I say a science is because I think learning and really adapting to how scientists think can really keep you objective and thus help with mental issues I think you said you were struggling with. I'm not a scientist myself (more of an artist type) but I do envy their culture. Because separating fact and fiction and being strong enough to accept hard facts so you can deal with them will help tremendously. Plus, science will have the added benefit of fulfilling the need of purpose because there is no better purpose I can see than understanding nature and this blasted universe we all woke up in. That is true purpose in my book rather than serving "the Lord".
