New technology always comes as a two-edged sword, great opportunity for new industries while rendering old industries obsolete if they don’t roll with the punches. 1. Oil companies will have to totally tear down and rebuild their facilities. 2. Companies that manufacture oil drilling equipment will have a lot of unmarketable products. 3. Gas stations will have no customers 4. Auto companies will have to figure out what to do will all the old cars that aren’t designed for the new fuel 5. Millions of workers will find their skills unmarketable These companies can survive with a great deal of creativity and money. But since the fossil fuel industry has tended to lean to the conservative right, I don’t see them going with the flow of new technology. I see them fighting it as an enemy. They will lose in the end just as daguerreotype lost to Kodak.
