Yeah..because Asgard doesn't exist. But the Universe exists and requires a Creator in order to make sense.

nvm.. I realized I don't care enough... about this anymore...
I mean really.. We need to placate the masses with myths...?? How condescending.. Only a religious person would view "people" so callously.. Honestly, the thought of enlightening them and providing equity is too great a task for the religious mind.. so it just resorts to force or manipulation when it is unable to figure out how to influence in a peaceful way... just like the God they serve (May 15, 2011 at 9:51 am)Whirling Moat Wrote: No...I choose empowering the poor and uneducated. However that would be truly magical considering that the money would have to come from somewhere and the United States is facing an imminent Civil War due to the priviledged classes stance against being forced to help with the cost of ensuring that poor people can do things like go to the hospital and put food on the table . How do you think a Bill proposing universal education would go over? No, you do not choose to empower the poor and uneducated. You want to give them the tools to deal with being poor and uneducated. How is that empowering? That is merely ensuring they stay poor and uneducated. And saying a universal education bill would be neccessary is a strawman argument. We just need to fix the state of the existing education system and stop the attack on teacher's rights and benefits. Plus, you seem to be arguing that we need uneducated people around to keep religion around and make the sky daddy happy.
Even if the open windows of science at first make us shiver after the cozy indoor warmth of traditional humanizing myths, in the end the fresh air brings vigor, and the great spaces have a splendor of their own - Bertrand Russell
I think that a poor, uneducated, and unintelligent person that believed there was a God there to forgive their trespasses and grant them access to the great orgasm in the sky, no matter how much time they spent in prison, is much more dangerous than a poor, uneducated, and unintelligent person that believes that this life is the only one they will ever experience. The former wouldn't see any real reason to value thier decisions here because it is the eternal afterlife that matters most. The latter would be more apt to be risk averse and treasure what little time they had to experience the universe with their one small life.
The day everyone is a atheist is the day when people realise that everyone is a bisexual
I'm not bisexual, not even a little.

Those that blindly accept their dogma, or those that never question their faith and lose it.Just now seeing this.. The above would be accurate but I also believe that the majority of believers do not think critically about their beliefs.. I do not know of any major traditions that routinely ask atheistic questions of their faith, at least it is not part of the culture... It seems to bear out that this is the case when we see tv evangelists rake in millions of dollars.. or all of the money to palm readers and psychics and the like.. It is because the general theistic public is non critical... Most people are born into theistic tradition and have no real reason to reject it , critically and sincerely analyze it then re-accept it.. I find that a rarity.. |
