What -- is he the only person alive who hasn't got the memo that one of the grossest forms of unaccountable government waste is . . . wait for it . . . defense spending? Or is he going to turn his awesome negotiating chops on the defense contractors who have been making fools of Presidents and Congresses since before Ike warned of the military industrial complex?

And all of this after he has questioned the efficacy of NATO and suggested we scale back our military commitments in Korea, Japan, and the Pacific theater generally?

Trump is going to come up with a plan to wipe out ISIS in his first 30 days? Wow. He should also come up with a plan to wipe out cancer in the same timeframe. It would be about as simple.

No, great, let's piss away more money on "defense". It's not like our fucking infrastructure isn't in dire need of repair and upgrade. And of course, our education system is still the best Third-World system money can buy. Nothing to improve there, as evidenced by the complete lack of fucking morons voting for this clown. Shore up Social Security and Medicare? Fuck 'em! If they want to retire with a shred of dignity, let them retire and then get a job at WalMart like their grandparents did. Or maybe they can pick lettuce once we've driven out the Mexicans -- you know, those jobs they're "stealing" from us.

I'm also curious about these 88 former generals and admirals who have come out in support of Trump. I wonder how many of these retired brass now serve on the boards of the very companies that stand to benefit from the promised largesse?

The current plans are to procure about 2,500 F-35s at a total cost of $2.4b (that is not counting the enormous development costs of the plane). There are ten more Ford-class carriers planned, each costing at least $13b -- not counting their air groups, which will cost another $5b per carrier. Then there's replacing the M-1, the Littoral Combat Ship, and let us not forget the biggest portion of the defense budget: personnel.

Exactly how much waste does Trump think he'll find? That's an awful lot of $600 hammers.

Clearly ignorant of history, he doesn't understand that the steady increase of military budgets in order to buck up an increasingly shaky empire has presaged the fall of most empires in history. Military spending almost invariably has a negative RoI.

ETA: The figure I provided for the Ford-class carriers is incorrect. The lead ship cost that much, but that also include R&D for its new systems. Follow-on ships are estimated to cost around $7b each. Apologies for the incorrect information.

I agree, and Trump, like Bernie Sanders, is also more balanced with regards to the Israeli-Palestinian issue than Hillary is.

Hillary is not just biased towards Israel. She is super-biased. Even in the debates with Sanders, she kept pointing to the violence perpetrated by the Palestinians and refused to say a single bad thing about Israel. Sanders highlighted the fact that the damage and killings done by the Israelis are clearly "disproportionate" compared to what the Palestinians have done to them, but she just tries to gloss over that point and goes back to defending Israel while criticizing Palestine's actions. Donald Trump is a semi-fascist and he's a pretty despicable human being.

He scammed people with his Trump University, and is running very pro-voucher. I think it's pretty clear that he wants his rich elite friends to get the opportunity to scam hard working Americans out of their money with similar institutions. And at the elementary, middle, and high school level--in which lost years are far more costly than years lost at college. Oh and let's not forget that he's said that Ben Carson (Evolution Denier and Jesus hugger extraordinaire) will be heavily involved in education if he's President.

Then you have his choice for Vice President. The guy who'll be a heartbeat away from the Presidency--Mike Pence. Someone who diverted funding from HIV Prevention to pay for gay conversion therapy. So we might not see Jews sent to extermination camps, but I wouldn't be surprised to see gays sent to conversion therapy camps. Trump's also said that he favors overturning Obergefell.

The only right Donald Trump really cares about is the second amendment. No other right seems to matter to him at all. Freedom of Press? Absolutely not! He wants to open up the libel laws, so he can threaten to sue anyone who says anything negative about him (much like he's done in the past. So there's plenty of precedence for this). Freedom of religion? Not if you're Muslim! He also wants to deny birthright citizenship (creating a serious problem of some people being born stateless)

He may not be Hitler, but he'll definitely severely curb the rights of people. Especially in the name of making himself look better.
