Question for freethinkers
#21
RE: Question for freethinkers
I would have to steal an idea from the character G'Kar from Babylon 5 on this one. If there was such thing as a god, IT (not him or her, if there is only one and no need for genders) would be as alien to us as and ant to a human and communication would be just as futile. An ant could no more describe a human, than we could this hypotethical god.
When I was young, there was a god with infinite power protecting me. Is there anyone else who felt that way? And was sure about it? but the first time I fell in love, I was thrown down - or maybe I broke free - and I bade farewell to God and became human. Now I don't have God's protection, and I walk on the ground without wings, but I don't regret this hardship. I want to live as a person. -Arina Tanemura

I am asking you to pretend. It's same as if you asked me what would be the reasons for you to say maybe there is no God. Like things that have tested my faith. I understand this is a hard task. Thanks

At best, he would be the kind of God who seems to refuse to have any interest in his creation while his world goes to shit. If he does take an active interest in the human world, it seems like he would be actively malevolent.

RE: Question for freethinkers
God is the spinning chaos in the middle of a universe that was shat into being because god just wanted to. It could just as easily pull everything back into non-existence. Its name is Azagthoth and it is blind and an idiot who would just as soon reabsorb a creation as to create something new and different just to amuse itself. You certainly wouldn't want to draw nearer to thee for thee would resorb you and make you one with itself. Its messenger is Nyarlathotep the shapeshifter and meeting him could be either the most pleasent experience ever or the worst but never in between.

Once, when I was reading the revelations of Glaaki, I found a story of a planet of beings that were only capable of feeling pain, and about 80% of their matter was comprised of pain receptors. They were immortal and the slightest breeze would send them writhing in agony.

Azagthoth once decided it wanted a watcher and thus sprang forth Glarf, my imaginary friend who percieves reality objectively. He is omniscient and talks directly to my mind. He got as far from Azagthoth as he could right after he sprang forth into existence, much like our own planet.

We all peer at god through our assholes in a flashbulb of orgasm.

Okay, responding to the OP, if someone gave proof of a god existing and nothing else, I would go on and investigate more, to try and find out more about it. To make conjectures about something we only know to exist seems just as futile as any theism. Besides, theists already make enough conjectures about their specific god(s), even without proof of existence.

RE: Question for freethinkers
Putting aside the unlikelihood of something like that happening, I will try to answer your question.

I would see god as a child who has created a small world in the sand. He has placed people, trucks, buildings, etc. in his little world, but now he is bored with it. Once boredom sets in, he starts fucking with his creation. He pours water on some parts, making them collapse and the little people within float along. He kicks parts of it over, burying his people, buildings, etc. in the rubble. He makes them fight each other for his amusement, all the while causing more death and destruction. I would assume that, in the end, when this world had served its purpose, he would destroy it. Now, that would be strictly from my observation of the world based on that presumed hypothetical knowledge. In actuality, I believe these things happen for very different reasons from what I said above. Furthermore, the "toys" that this hypothetical god that I am given knowledge of are far more complex than my above description. There are also far more evils created by the petulant child god I envision. He gives us heartache, disease and mental dysfunction on a personal level. He gives us virulent viruses, war, famine, hatred, etc. on a widespread level. Therefore, if I discovered such a god existed, I would hate him in lieu of men like Hitler, Joseph Kony and all of my exes Smile because it really wouldn't be their fault would it?

ETA: I am aware that we also have good things in this world, but when was the last time a good thing came easily? You can get killed, dismembered, sick or heartbroken without really doing much of anything, but just waiting for the hits to come. You have to work hard for happiness, success, etc. Well, at least, someone has to work hard, be it you or a benefactor.

Thanks Shell. You have answered my question. I agree that those disasters happen but I don't believe he is evil and I still love him and that's faith. Some atheists that I know actually have said to me that they wish they had faith. My friend told me that when his mother was dying she saw people praying(dying from cancer) in the hospital and at that moment she wished she hair faith. Faith is like an unconditional love for the creator. When you are all reason and no spirit you two into a trap of Satan. Ofcourse I must always say I believe. Thanks

Yes, those disasters happen and no entity creates them. However, if one did, it would not be an indication of a loving god. Just to be clear, though, my description said nothing about being evil. Being worthy of fierce hatred, yes.

I have heard similar comments. Wishing you had faith and being capable of it are quite different. I am not one of those people. It would be nice if there were some kind, thoughtful being watching over me, but that is not the description the Bible gives of god. Even if it were, I would be an atheist. There is no proof of the horrible god depicted in the bible or the kind god depicted by douches that try to convert me.

Well, have at it. I don't care for it.

Spare me. I appreciate your thanks, but implying that my reason is causing me to fall into the trap of some mythical evil creature that seeks to do me eternal harm is slightly rude.

RE: Question for freethinkers
So Pel you unconditionally love a god that is responsible for mass slaughter through disasters?
I find that perverse, but no doubt you can explain why god allows them to take place?

( god of course almost certainly doesn't exist )
HuhA man is born to a virgin mother, lives, dies, comes alive again and then disappears into the clouds to become his Dad. How likely is that?
