Why isn't my sound working?

I have an ASUS Q500 notebook laptop by the way.


Ever since I've updated to Windows 10 I've had multiple issues, one of which being my sound driver. The sound would just randomly stop working. However, I'd always be able to fix it by uninstalling the driver (Realtek High Definition) and reinstalling it. And the problem wouldn't return for a number of months... but not this time. I don't know what to do. My computer tried replacing it with a couple of other drivers during the troubleshooting process to no avail. I'm worried that this problem is related to my actual computer.

Any ideas from tech-savvy members?

I can't help too much, I do have the Realtek High Definition sound thingy and it works fine, other than sometimes not being very loud which I attribute to the source materials I click on.

I don't have the Q500, I have a G752v.

Maybe its not the Realtek, but something else in your setup ?

That's actually not that insulting.

Laptops constantly get stuff like people turning on Airplane mode and note and not knowing what they did, etc. All it takes is one wrong function key-strike, and it's like "Dude. . . why is my computer doing that!?"

Not this laptop, I think it was the one before, had horribly distorted sound, even at very low volume levels.

Eventually, I found buried in the sound menu somewhere, an equalizer! And all the settings were max'd out. I centered all the controls, and the damn thing sounded fine after that.


So, maybe it's just a setting somewhere ?

Yeah, my daughters laptop stopped widda sound after her windows 10 update, de and re installing the audio drivers didn't work but another update came along and seems to have fixed it.
