As for bigots and so on... They are generally idiots who get too much of a free pass from decent people. They can be handled. All that needs to happen is for the better part of society to make them pay a price for espousing certain views and expressing certain attitudes with their actions.
I'm in no way advocating violence, of course. What I am advocating is liberals with bigger balls and better plans than the SJW movement.

I would like to know what freedom's will be lost and how.
Well, let's start with Freedom of religion. He's repeatedly stated that Muslims should be barred from entering America and from becoming citizens.
Quote:"total and complete shutdown of Muslims entering the United States until our country's representatives can figure out what is going on." The 2015 policy proposed a blanket ban on Muslims based on what Trump called "hatred" of the West innate in Islam.
In the days that followed, Trump pointed to what he considered historical precedent to defend his singling out of the Muslim religion with his ban. He used FDR's Proclamations 2525, 2526, and 2527, which applied to Japanese, Italian, and German Americans in the aftermath of Pearl Harbor as examples. Those proclamations authorized the U.S. to "detain allegedly potentially dangerous enemy aliens" and led to the internment of many of these individuals.

In this thread:
- Trump supporters in denial over his rhetoric and even if he will take away any freedoms (apparently that whole "I will overturn gay marriage" thing wasn't a dead ringer enough)
- Leftists incredulous at hearing "We wouldn't protest" from the Right (then backwatered to a form of "Well we won't shit on police cars") after enduring eight years of "Nobama! No way!" (Hey AT, that should sound familiar to you!), "One term president!".
- corollary to the above, expect to feel the same gridlock.
You can only have a discussion participants agree to some form of reality.
Tiberius put it bluntly - the Trump tone was of threats, anger and promises of revenge. Whatever apologetics you throw at that, that's what his campaign turned out to be.
However "crooked" Hillary was, she did not descend nowhere close to Trump or his supporters. For some reason, people are less likely to think if she gets revenge compared to President Trump's when he'll get revenge.
You laughed when you heard his sales pitch, now you're trying to play the "see how civil we are - this is so unfair!" game.
Just who are ya trying to fool?

You forgot the 'how' part, it's critical to the discussion. Right now there is a lot of emotion in reaction to campaign rhetoric. Whether one supports declarations such as the ban on all Muslim immigrants, a wall at our southern border or mass deportations is immaterial. They won't come to fruition. Trump, and any other politician for that matter, can say anything they want, but getting the requisite legislation passed to fulfill is an entirely different matter.
I take solace in this, but am not so naive as to dismiss the real fear felt by individuals of groups being denigrated by the rhetoric. I have the utmost sympathy for my fellow citizens (which includes undocumented residents in my definition) affected, but admit that true empathy is extremely difficult if not impossible. As a white middle aged male, I can imagine what it would be like to be vilified simply on the basis of my skin color or country of origin. The thought elicits powerful emotions of disgust and anger, but I am smart enough to know that I can't really experience the same feeling as others do simply because I have never been exposed to that type of hatred.
The closest I have ever come was in Alabama over 25 years ago. My first wife was Puerto Rican. The ubiquitous and obvious looks of disapproval and disdain from the older generations was disturbing and shocking. This does not allow me a true sense of empathy though because the disapproval and disdain aimed at me was because of the content of my mind; i.e., the decision to marry someone of color. My wife however was vilified simply because of her appearance which immediately classified her as 'the other'. This is the distinction I make between sympathy and empathy, appropriately I think, and admit that I can never truly empathize.
I wanted to share this to more fully express my thoughts on the matter. I am hopeful that as we move farther from the rhetoric of the campaign that the fear loses its current palpable nature. Much of what was given as campaign promises is already being rolled back, but the emotional damage is done which will require significant effort to ameliorate. I know Trump voters who are not racist or bigoted and will gladly join protests should there be actual attempts to infringe on liberties.

If you won't have us take a persons own words at face value or their own website for what it says, well what sort of response do you expect?
Hope? Obama got that because of his words and his website.

Supporting an asshole is subjective. I guess I can be subjective and say that I didn't support the other asshole.
No, it's not done, but we should be slowly dismantling it and ensuring that the workers are looked after. It's not the fault of the workers that their industry uses up natural resources that aren't coming back and pollutes the environment, so I don't see why they should just be tossed aside, but then again, Clinton didn't ever suggest that.
Don't pretend that lobbying isn't a thing in this country, because you know the real reason those energy sources aren't taking off very well is due to lobbying from the fossil fuels lobby. Besides, private solar companies are doing great at the moment, and the main reason nuclear energy isn't moving forward is the scare tactics that unfortunately come mainly from environmentalists (see, I'm not saying environmentalists are correct on everything).

I hope your last sentiment is accurate, Cato. The Trumpeteers I know here, while they may or may not be bigoted, aren't willing to march out against his more obnoxious proposals, I don't think. One instance where I hope I'm wrong.

You give too much credit to environmentalists Tiberius. The nuclear industry invented then resisted safer, smaller, modern reactor technology. To use a Trumpism, China! China is developing LFTRs (not the old GE PWR technology). The people who killed LFTRS in the US were in the Nuclear industry (mainly because they were in love with supersized PWR reactors).
When a safer Nuclear is shot down by industry insiders due to stylistic preferences, you can understand why anti-Nuclear hysteria prevails. It's like refusing to endorse seatbelts before an audience that is afraid the car will kill them.
If you'd like to look further, I advise looking into the history of LFTRs/MSRs and Oak Ridge National Laboratory. It's just a hobby of mine.

So you're the guy they talk about in the interviews. Hi Moros!

@Solar doing great work, currently
...not if being green is the metric. Due to some interesting political and economic manouvering, the dirtiest and shadiest of solar tech has emerged victorious (as in equally dirty and shady with the worst fossil fuel orgs). The guys who had good ideas got closed down (and to some extent those good ideas actually relied on the success of a dirty industry in the first place...they got their raw materials as waste byproduct of elecronics manufacturing - until their own industry became worth something and competition for those waste materials sent everyone in search of a new supply)....the industry stopped self reporting and the reporting body was coopted by those companies left in the wake who just so happened to have the lowest grades, previously, -from- those reporting agencies. Every time they deig to report statistics that we can;t even trust the picture just gets worse and worse anyone, on the green metric. Seeing as how we can positively trust that they -are- engaging in very convenient stat manipulation, the fact that theyre getting worse and not better probably means something a whole hell of alot shittier than even -they- decide to report...when they decide to report.
It's really, really bad at the moment, for solar. It doesn't have to be, but it is. Not saying there aren;t people doing good work, there are. I had a buddy doing some lab work as part of peer review on a promising new organic solar tech....turned out that the people who said they'd accomplished "x" were charlatans..he wasted a ayar and a half trying to replicate the unreplicatable. Money attracts charlatans....they, ofc, had already cashed in and cashed out before anyone realized what was up.
