Piece of string

Piece of string
If I had a piece of string that was about 2mm thick but infinitely long it would have infinite mass.

But, if you had two pieces of string like this would yours have twice the mass of mine?

If so, how? Because my string still has infinite mass.

Tongue

And another thing. How is it possible to see light from the very very early Universe when surely the light that we are observing should have reached our current location in space before the mass that makes up us did?

It took me ages to work out this one but has anyone else here even thought about it?

RE: Piece of string
Infinity isn't a number Big Grin

Proof by contradiction:

If 1 / 0 = Infinity, then a basic rearrangement should mean that Infinity * 0 = 1
If 2 / 0 = Infinity, then the same arrangement means Infinity * 0 = 2

Therefore 1 = 2

Contradiction! Either 0 or Infinity are not numbers, and given we know 0 is a number, logically Infinity cannot be.

I have no idea about the last one...it makes my brain hurt.
