Thanks

Yup. Me.

Yeah... I really don't respect first time posters who don't introduce themselves with that first post.

RE: Characteristics of Conspiracy Theories
You'll never "reach" the hardcore conspiracy theorist because they aren't really interested in the overt subject. They're actually trying to achieve something else and this is the chosen method. For example, the Pearl Harbor disaster is said to have been a case of "just let it happen" or such. "FDR knew about it and let it happen to get the US into the war." The deaths they beat their breasts over, and the material damage they find horrifying, are just a way to slam FDR, another way of proving he was an evil monster. So it doesn't matter how many fatal flaws to their theory are presented, they just don't care. If they can get one more person to believe, they're happy.

The way to counteract this is with the facts, of course. The Myths of Pearl Harbor is a page I put up while at Purdue. It's used by historians at the Army and Navy historical centers, they refer questions about any conspiracy to that page as a starting point for further research. Saves them time and they don't have to take an official "stance" on the matter that the CTers can use to further beat their drum.

I love Frodo's "if I cant have my delusion, you can't have your reality". Classy. Imma give it a thumbs up.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

You want an introduction? Do a search on orwells boot. It is an article that I wrote. It is number one all the search engines. factotum666 is me. Because of a link that I put up on my own website, on google I am #1 and #9. Is that a good enough introduction for you?
Before you get into it, it is a 6000 word article. It may exceed your attention span.

LOL, you have misunderstand Sae, Sae's posts serve to amuse Sae, they say nothing about her attention span.

You clearly put alot of time into that article. I'm left wondering what the conclusions mean in context. Are you simply making a commentary, or does this conclusion to you support some specific "conspiracy theory"...or does it flatly repudiate some specific "conspiracy theory"? A third option, does it imply a negative or positive about conspiracy theories in general? Yet a fourth option, your article has absolutely nothing to do with conspiracy theories.

As to your article, it would seem to be that you are of the opinion that nothing can be done to prevent your conclusion from manifesting itself into reality. Would I be mistaken in saying that, or do you offer an alternative?

I'm also a bit vague about the op. Are you asking if any of us are, as atheists/agnostics involved in perpetuating specific conspiracy theories, or are you asking if any of us as atheists/agnostics are actively engaged in conspiring?

Whatever the case may be, welcome to the boards. BTW, get the thumb reattached?

How did you come up with the idea that the article involved conspiracies?

Quote: A third option, does it imply a negative or positive about conspiracy theories in general? Yet a fourth option, your article has absolutely nothing to do with conspiracy theories.

That last would be correct. Because of some interactions that I have been having with people I have noticed similarities, which has lead me to the hypothesis that: because of similarities in how the brains of believers work, as opposed to non-believers when it comes to seeing patterns that are not there, that only believers would be involved in conspiracy theories. I am exploring that.

Quote:As to your article, it would seem to be that you are of the opinion that nothing can be done to prevent your conclusion from manifesting itself into reality. Would I be mistaken in saying that, or do you offer an alternative?

I have some in mind. I did not want to post them. If others had some ideas I would like to see them. I would not like to see other peoples reactions to my ideas.
Quote:I'm also a bit vague about the op. Are you asking if any of us are, as atheists/agnostics involved in perpetuating specific conspiracy theories, or are you asking if any of us as atheists/agnostics are actively engaged in conspiring?
Neither. I just want to know if anyone knows if there are any atheists who believe in conspiracies? Well, I guess that would actually be any atheists anywhere involved in any way with conspiracy theories. But I guess that the nature of the beast is that if you are involved then you are promoting. Sort of like being a Christian with the charge to promote the truth.

Quote:Whatever the case may be, welcome to the boards. BTW, get the thumb reattached?
No. But I got a toe move to where the thumb used to be.

RE: Characteristics of Conspiracy Theories
LOL, roger roger, thanks for all the clarification. I imagine there are just as many atheists who subscribe to this or that conspiracy theory (or dont) as theists. Deviations from the standard and all. I don't understand the hesitation to offer an alternative if you have one. Many of us here like to remind people that they're spouting BS on a daily basis, regardless of their reactions...so you'd be in good company. Just saying that you've made quite the prediction there Cassandra.

Well that is what the hypothesis is about. I am hoping to get some data. My impression is that there are few if any atheists among conspiracy theorests.

As I said. I do not want others to react against my ideas. I do not want to seed the idea pool.

If it makes you feel better, I have an idea about the solution to the problem, and I see it happening globally.
I think that I referenced common and bonobo chimps. Read about them. Read "The alphabet and the Goddess"
those are hints.
