Science Porn
RE: Science Porn
It remains a wonder to me such things are predictable in the first place.  I realize every asteroid casts a shadow from every star in the sky, but noodling out in 3 dimensions (4 with knowing when) one of those shadows is going to cross the earth's surface accurately enough to have folks with the right equipment in the right places to watch is pretty amazing to be able to predict.

The illustration is of the Interamnia occultation.  Every line represents an observer on the earth's surface and shows whether or not they saw the star wink out and for how long.  If all the observations are synchronized in time and then the observations are correlated, the outline of the asteroid can be discerned.  Turns out the synchronization of the observations is the hard part.

Still wish you could confirm or deny whether the universe is rotating for me.

U science peeps.

Wink
If I were to create self aware beings knowing fully what they would do in their lifetimes, I sure wouldn't create a HELL for the majority of them to live in infinitely! That's not Love, that's sadistic. Therefore a truly loving god does not exist!

Quote:The sin is against an infinite being (God) unforgiven infinitely, therefore the punishment is infinite.

Dead wrong.  The actions of a finite being measured against an infinite one are infinitesimal and therefore merit infinitesimal punishment.

Quote:Some people deserve hell.

I say again:  No exceptions.  Punishment should be equal to the crime, not in excess of it.  As soon as the punishment is greater than the crime, the punisher is in the wrong.

What would it be rotating in?

I think I meant galaxy. Allllll of existence, constantly expanding. Rotating in one direction, indicative of our origins possibly being the receiving end of a black hole? I posted a Link to Cornell about it one page ago.

The Milky Way galaxy rotates.

4 times, more or less, every billion years.

All galaxies rotate.

This, vorlie.

http://curious.astro.cornell.edu/physics...y-beginner

"Scientists believe that on large scales the Universe is isotropic (the same in all directions). Thus, from our perspective, half of all spiral galaxies should spin clockwise, and half counter-clockwise. A recent analysis of the spin of spiral galaxies confirms this. The public classified over 35,000 spiral galaxies with spins both clockwise and counter-clockwise in the Sloan Digital Sky Survey as part of the Galaxy Zoo project. Scientists published the results in a recent paper and found that the Universe is indeed isotropic - we see the same number of clockwise as counter-clockwise spirals (within the uncertainties)."

Okay so don't know shit about astronomy. Just read up on isotropic and homogenic universe theory etc.

I read though that the galaxies spin a certain direction which implies the entire universe does too. That's all I want to know. Is it true?

https://resonance.is/the-rotating-universe/

In more recent events, there have been several findings that suggest that the universe is indeed not entirely homogenous and isotropic. Such examples come from the so called axis of evil identified during an analysis of the microwave background radiation, dark flow, Shamir’s report on the Sloan Digital Sky Survey showing that left-twisted galaxies were much more common than right-swirling galaxies; as well as structural mapping such as the BOSS Great Wall and Laniakea.

RE: Science Porn
when averaged all together, the galaxies spins 'cancel out' and the net result looks pretty close to zero.

Wouldn't you expect that though if the universe was spinning in a certain direction?
