No, my go to argument is calling people out for what they are.

Not my fault that you're a doctrinaire and dogmatic catholic, so stop getting angry at me for pointing out you're one.

$11 minimum hourly rate is a joke, and not much of a jump from $10.

The real joke is that we take a $1 hourly raise at Walmart to be an improvement worth noting. It says more about the sad state of our society that we are told to be grateful for such an insignificant boon.

I can't speak generally about Walmart, but in my hometown, it's rare for an employee to get more than 20 hours weekly. So basically folks are getting 20 bucks a week; most aren't even eligible for benefits. Sure, it's good for the people who profit from it, but it sure does emphasize the trickle in "trickle-down economics."

I'm not impressed. In no tangible way have citizens lives benefitted by improving the shittiest jobs around by a modest increment. This is no metric by which to gauge opportunity.

Walmart Officials Plan To Cut Thousands Of Jobs Through Store Closures, Automation
Walmart credited the Trump tax plan for its recent bonuses and pay increases, while at the same time quietly planning to eliminate stores and create facilities that have no cashiers.
GUNNAR RATHBUN / AP IMAGES NEWS January 14, 2018

At the same time Walmart officials announced an increase in starting pay and bonuses for their employees, they were taking actions that will likely end up placing thousands of those employees on the unemployment line.

Since that announcement, which was tied to the Trump tax cuts, Walmart announced plans to close 63 Sam’s Club stores across the United States, a move that is expected to put thousands of employees out of work and the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette reported Saturday, the company is laying off 1,000 employees from its corporate headquarters in Bentonville, Arkansas.

I'm not sure a Wal-Mart with no cashiers will be very different....
I'm not anti-Christian. I'm anti-stupid.

Whodda thot ?

Define "good for workers". You mean the ones who got bonuses, or the ones who got laid-off?

I'm thinking you've got a serious filter in place here.

"but, Hillary!" in 5 ... 4 ... 3 ...

Probably because it's not him now worrying about how he's going to pay down his Christmas credit-card debt. He'd be singing a different tune were he one of the laid-off.

^^^^^^^^^ SO MUCH THIS.......

Sad part is that just enough of America keeps falling for this bullshit bait. They have been pulling this crap since Reagan started deregulation and failed trickle down. And all they have to do to keep holding government hostage is to shout "Commie" or "They're coming for your guns."

If the TOP had absolute power, workers would only get 1 hour a week and work for $1 per hour.

Licensed optician. We opened the store on Maui on Halloween day 2000. Starting pay was $7.50p/h but few would take it as McDonalds starting pay was $10.00p/h. They started as a 24 hour store. They very quickly shortened the hours of operation and raised the starting pay to $10.00 but where 100 employees short for the holiday season. It was a mess!

A few years later they raised it to $12.00p/h and experienced cashiers could start at 14-15p/h. Now there going to raise it again.

On this island we have Wal-Mart, Costco, Home Depot, Lowes, Target and a closed K-Mart. We have about 150 to 160 thousand residence and those companies must compete for the employees. Yes, you can make more money here but a studio apt with one parking stall starts at $1.600 p/month.
My girlfriend thinks I'm a stalker. Well...she's not my girlfriend "yet".

I discovered a new vitamin that fights cancer. I call it ...B9

I also invented a diet pill. It works great but had to quit taking it because of the side effects. Turns out my penis is larger and my hair grew back. And whoa! If you think my hair is nice!

When does size truly matter? When it's TOO big!

I'm currently working on a new pill I call "Destenze". However...now my shoes don't fit.

I chortled on my coffee.  You're regaling us with stories of being a walmart optician as though it were representative of walmarts labor conditions?

And that is the problem, you'd still be behind on that rate, especially if you have kids and the rent is higher if you have more than one room.
