Implied winter episode.
Natalie trying to impress good looking guy, "I love the slopes." (Meaning skiing) Tootie, "You don't know how to ski." Natalie, "I'm a little rusty," Tootie, "You slow down by dragging your face.".
I am watching "Different Strokes" but it was the intro spin off with Ms Garrett going to EastLand to help Kimberly at her dorm with sewing play costumes.
BUT huge plot hole though. One of the girls gets a letter from her parents that says they can no longer attend the private school because dad lost his job. WHO the fuck does that to a kid in a letter in reality? Oh wait, I guess it is ok in reality when you are the Billionaire owner of the Dallas Cowboys and you don't even tell Tom Landry he's lost his coaching job and he finds out in the news, no phone call not even a letter. Anyhwo, it was nice to see the pilot that lead to "Facts Of Life" regardless. RE: The Facts Of Life......

Today's rerun has Blair reading a letter from her boyfriend Ben who is in Alaska, and she is reading into the letter things that may or may not be there, so she is worried. She wonders if she should call, or even says, "I don't want to go to Alaska", right as Jo walks in who didn't hear any of the prior conversation.
Jo, "Go to Alaska" Blair(knowing Jo just walked in,) "You don't even know what my problem is." Jo, "Does it matter?" On a serious note, this same episode is about abortion, although they never use the word. Blair found out her mom got pregnant. She assumed her mom would have the baby, but her mom said she was not going to have it. Blair gets upset. A side note the actress in real life is RWer. All I can think watching this episode is, IT IS NOT YOUR FUCKING DECISION! The writers must have been fundies too, because mom changes her mind by the end.
Today's episode, Natalie is eating a breakfast and says, "You are what you eat."
Joe comes back and says, "What are you eating, scrap metal?".
On a very serious note, I can only guess why today's rerun made me cry.
The plot had Blair running against "Cynthia" for student body president. Cynthia wins and of course Blair is a sore loser. BUT later in the episode Tootie finds Cynthia passed out in her room having taking a bottle of pills. They rush her to the hospital, but she dies. The kids find out later that it might have been because her parents were getting a divorce. Ok, so why was I crying? Because I suffer from depression, and it got really bad when my mom had health problems and you cant help but second guess yourself and blame yourself for every tiny thing. Point is, mental illness affects everyone from every class and it is extremely important for those around that person to see the signs and and listen without judging. I can say that I got through my mom's health issues AND her death, because I had lots of support. Just like Kurt Kobain, you cannot judge someone by their "success" in fame. Junior Seau former San Diego Charger too. The stigma of mental health needs to be stripped and gone. |
