"He really is not on the president's team, never was," said Falwell. Thus we have evangelical Christians turning on, and denouncing, an actual evangelical Christian in favor of a man who does appear to embrace a single tenet of Christianity. Never doubt that the leaders of evangelical Christianity are basically Republican political lobbyists who cloak themselves in a thin veneer of religiosity. Similarly, don't doubt that the GOP is now 100% the party of Trump.

Yeah, they are a bunch of hypocrites. So realizing that they've compromised their core principles for political expediency will not result in any kind of "implosion." It's one of the benefits of being a hypocrite, after all. You get to flaunt your "principles" in other people's faces and then abandon them when it suits your needs.

Not too surprising; back when the Relgious Right first emerged, we had an Evangelical (genuine Southern Baptist) in the White House. And how did they feel about him? They pushed him out and swooned over whoever virtue signalled to them the way they wanted to be virtue signalled to. Hell, the only other President since then who could accurately be described as an Evangelical, well, we all know how the religious right felt about Bill Clinton.
