Some people don’t arbitrarily value one species of animal over another.

May all those people appreciate it when someone else value the comfort of a rat on par with their life and wellbeing.

Valuing the life of one animal that has not even the remotest theoretical and most general of possibilities of reciprocating the favor in a practical way on par with that of another that does have a moderate probability of gratitude and reciprocation is not on the whole a formula for evolutionary success.

Get back to me when you’ve volunteered in a crisis area due to a dangerous outbreak.

Edit: and if you’re going to comment about an action of mine being “obscene” have the courtesy to address me directly.

See, I wouldn’t have thought it to be a good idea to try to pass a law to impose my sensibilities on you.

Well, that’s an altogether selfish way of looking at it.

Ultimately, durability of moral principles depends it being plausibly representable as being good for the community or society that holds it.
