Legal Recommendations, Anyone?

Legal Recommendations, Anyone?
I am giving serious consideration in suing a church for harassment.  It involves them continuing to send me their church newsletter after I sent a letter to them requesting them to stop and removing my mailing address from their mailing list, which was back in late March.  I do not know how I got on their mailing list, all I know is I never requested their damn church newsletter. I want a secular freethought lawyer to aid me in this.  I will not be ignored, there will be repercussions for them.  I live in Georgia.  Any recommendations?  Anyone else experienced this before?

Never had that happen to me. And unfortunately I have no advice to impart.

dictionary.law.com defines "harassment" this way:

Quote:harassment
(either harris-meant or huh-rass-meant) n. the act of systematic and/or continued unwanted and annoying actions of one party or a group, including threats and demands. The purposes may vary, including racial prejudice, personal malice, an attempt to force someone to quit a job or grant sexual favors, apply illegal pressure to collect a bill or merely gain sadistic pleasure from making someone anxious or fearful. Such activities may be the basis for a lawsuit if due to discrimination based on race or sex, a violation on the statutory limitations on collection agencies, involve revenge by an ex-spouse, or be shown to be a form of blackmail ("I'll stop bothering you if you'll go to bed with me"). The victim may file a petition for a "stay away" (restraining) order, intended to prevent contact by the offensive party. A systematic pattern of harassment by an employee against another worker may subject the employer to a lawsuit for failure to protect the worker.

You'd have to prove to a judge that what they're doing meets these criteria.

This sounds more like spam than harassment. And you have to go through the FTC for that. If they don’t do anything, you’re SOL because consumers have no recourse when it comes to spam.

If the church is nearby, go there in person, copy of newsletter in hand. Tell them - in no uncertain terms - that if they don't remove you from their mailing list immediately, you WILL retain an attorney.

Very often, the mere threat of legal action is enough to accomplish what you want.

It is hard as hell to get spammers on robo calls to get them to stop, regardless of content. The private sector does have apps that try to limit them, but this is snail mail. Every state/location has different laws about such of course. I'd try contacting FFRF or American Atheists.

I experienced an identical problem involving the Catholic high school I graduated from in 1966. A former classmate, against my specific wishes, sent them my name and address so that I would receive their mailings. I contacted the school twice by mail and three times by telephone, telling them to remove my name from their mailing lists. I finally had to have my lawyer send them a letter, telling them to cease and desist or face legal action. On his advice, I followed this up with a registered letter to the school's principal, ordering my name removed from their mailing lists. That worked and I no longer get their bulletins or fund raising literature.

If it bothers you this much and the church is in your area show up to a service with the news letter, let them know that they invited you, then be as disruptive as possible without breaking the law.

As they "escort" you out tell them that you'll be back when you get the next letter. No lawyer needed.

This.

Go there in person, if you can {arson}, and ask them politely but firmly to remove you from their mailing list {burn it down}.

Mention that you don't want to get lawyers involved {they're the enemy}, but you will be keeping that option open if they persist on ignoring your request {kill them}.

If they continue, then definitely get the lawyers to sent them a cease-and-desist order {burn the bodies}.

Better yet.

Go to their church and get involved.

Concentrate on the younger ones and make sure they all are made aware that it's all bullshit.

If anyone complains about you - make sure to let them know they called YOU and not the other way around...
