What do you know today that you didn't know yesterday?

That my newish purchasing clerk isn't the brightest bulb in the box. I had my suspicions but definitely confirmed this morning.

In 2005, a glass company set up a bullet-proof glass poster case containing $3 million at a bus stop in Vancouver, Canada. If anyone was able to break the glass they got to keep the cash. Nobody succeeded, despite plenty trying.

teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

Okay, while the sitar picks might not be the best for my huge-ass fingers (maybe if someone can take the general design, but bigger), I've realised that not only might the strap locks I bought make perfectly-sized rubber ukulele picks (and are certainly easier to source than the rubber washers I found on Etsy last month), but they're apparently based on rubber gaskets from bottles by a beermaker called Grolsch, and can potentially be bought for about $6.50 per bag of a hundred. The only reason I'm not buying them now is because they're not available in black and I'm not sure if I can dye them.

Native American athlete Jim Thorpe won gold in both the pentathlon and decathlon at the 1912 Olympic Games. The part I didn’t know was that, on the day he was to compete in the decathlon, someone had stolen his shoes. He was able to find mismatched shoes (one of them from a rubbish bin) and won the gold in shoes that didn’t fit.

I learned about the baby shark dance today. Apparently, it's been watched over 9 billion times.

Now I know about it, and there is no way I'm clicking that.

I prefer the Baby Shark x Happier (Marshmellow Bastille) remix.

I learned that YMMV means Your mileage may vary. I've only ever seen it used here and lazily assumed it was some Christian thing, like people were going around and inserting in their posts the Ancient Hebrew spelling of Jesus. Then I saw an atheist do it and finally looked it up.  Doh

California Renewable Energy is NOT associated with the state of California. It's a solar cell sales company that sends people out with official looking uniforms and badges who try to con people into buying solar. Don't lie, because you will eventually be found out. Life lesson for all of us, really.
