Afterlife plays a main role in a lot of religions just a question I ask everyone, personally I would love for there to be one but I can't force myself to believe in one without and credible evidence to back it up. Also, If reincarnation was true and you could pick what you come back as, what would you be? FSM Grin (Been wanting to use that smiley since I joined lol)

I would just like to be immortal on Earth and not have to die. I don't like reincarnation because all our memories are supposedly lost (for the most part). I'd like for heaven to exist. Sure.

"I would just like to be immortal on earth"

Completely agree, to me heaven sounds rather boring to just praise and worship some god for all eternity.

That question makes me angry. Might as well be asking me why I'm so angry at flying, pink unicorns.

You are angry because deep down you know God exists, but you are too proud to admit it.

If you die tonight, where will you go ?

RE: I'm an atheist. Ask me a question.
I rather embarrassedly found myself quoting House MD here: why do I not believe in an afterlife: "because I have to believe this [life] is more than a test". That and having a rational mind and a healthy level of skepticism.
There is nothing to fear if there is no afterlife. I can't remember who said it first, but I have been dead, or nonexisting, for billions of years before I was alive, and I will be dead or nonexisting for billions more before this universe ends (if it does, that's a whole nuther question). No diff. There is nothing to fear in oblivion.

Some Mormon told me that was in their book. So you're an Amormon.

You also have beliefs. That must be a comfort.

K. Please explain your ontology, teleology and include a thorough exegesis. Thx.

That's not unfortunate, your not following anything stupid. Tongue

Quote: I do not believe I will see my loved ones after I die.
Why? Don't you believe in Valhalla?

Quote:I do not believe I will live eternally after death... I know. Depressing.
But Valhalla awaits us!
We'll be burning and killing Christians for burning and torturing great thinkers at the stakes. They helped hold mankind back, so we'll be getting our own back when we arrive in Valhalla.

Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence - Carl Sagan

Mankind's intelligence walks hand in hand with it's stupidity.

Being an atheist says nothing about your overall intelligence, it just means you don't believe in god. Atheists can be as bright as any scientist and as stupid as any creationist.

You never really know just how stupid someone is, until you've argued with them.

Question: do you expect anything to come from this thread?

I know I don't.

Thanks for the support fellow atheist. Did you say this on Jon Paul's thread too?

You'd be surprised how many Christians that are not Mormons are actually Mormons, if what you say is a true generalization of all non-Mormon Christians.

No.

Because I didn't bother getting into it.

Because he was even less sane than I am.

But I sure as hell thought it. Smile
