What do you know today that you didn't know yesterday?

Also, never in a million years would you guess that, 20 years after this, the same guy who played this jackass who hijacked a taxi ride would make the role of his career as a soft-spoken, sadistic meth kingpin.

given the inexplicable popularity and longevity of the dull and unimaginative star wars franchise, he will probably be most remembered for playing the sadistic successor to Peter Cushing, who wields a unique dark saber rather than the iconic light saber,  excites his own minion at random just to prove a point during negotiation, commands a army of flying robotic death troopers, and hunts baby yoda in the Mandelorian.

teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

The streets of the ancient roman city of Pompeii are peculiarly designed with foot high curbs between the street and the sidewalk. The mystery of why it is designed that way solved by a careful survey which shows the streets are designed to function as flood diversion channels to protect the city doing times of heavy downpour.

The largest lion’s mane jellyfish ever measured was off the coast of Massachusetts in 1865. The beastie had a bell seven feet in diameter and tentacles 120 feet long. This is the stuff nightmares are made of.

There are 2300 glass bridges and glass walkways in China.     Including one that lost 9 glass floor panels when the bridge flexed in high wind.   The bridge was NOT closed to public at the time.

I wonder how often people fall to their death ascending or descending that thing.

That’s nothing.

There is a set of straight staircases in Switzerland that goes up twice as high as the highest point on all of St Helena Island.   It has 11000 steps and goes up 1 mile.

It is the same height as the famous Angel’s landing in Zion national park on the Colorado Plateau,  provided you put the bottom at the sea level, not on the floor of Zion Canyon.

The only reason it is not famous is it is open to the public only one day a year.    I was there on one such day, needless to say I did not try to climb it.

It’s not the fall that kills you, it’s the sudden stop.
