The Absurd GOP

Aside from that, they'd need to convince the legislatures of thirty-eight -- count 'em, thirty-eight -- states to repeal that or any other part of the Constitution.

As an aside, I wonder if the current SCOTUS would assume the power of deciding that a Constitutional amendment is unConstitutional? Remember, the Court under Marshall assumed the power of deciding on Constitutionality without having that power derogated in the document itself.

I suspect Thomas and Alito, perhaps others, would be very happy to apply de rigeur originality even without having its imprimatur for the court itself. But as Jackson said, "Let them enforce it." Swings and roundabouts, hey-ho.

Tucker Carlson Launches Show On Russian State TV

The paper said that the show is part of a joint project with Carlson TV, in which he will interview figures and politicians who have "alternative views to the mainstream."

teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

I hope he's making a lot of money. If you're going to sell out your country, don't go cheap.

Of course there's a difference. Step back from the this being a Washington state issue. It's far more complex than numbers (my home in the USA is in Washington, I am very familiar with these nutbars and what they're up to). There is an active effort to split most of the GOP controlled areas from the state. In addition, this Supreme court gutted part of the 14th amendment, what's to stop them from doing the same to the 17th?

When the courts, state legislatures, and Governor's seats are dominated by a minority party who has no problem with lawlessness, do you really think that the Constitution and checks and balances are going to get in their way of the national GOP for long?

Mate, if you're going to insist on bringing up valid points on aspects of this that I haven’t even considered, I don’t think we can be friends. Wink

Quote:WASHINGTON (AP) — In his bid to become North Carolina’s first Black governor, Republican Mark Robinson assails government safety net spending as a “plantation of welfare and victimhood” that has mired generations of Black people in “dependency” and poverty.

But the lieutenant governor’s political rise wouldn’t have been possible without it.

Over the past decade, Robinson’s household has relied on income from Balanced Nutrition Inc., a nonprofit founded by his wife, Yolanda Hill, that administered a free lunch program for North Carolina children. The organization, funded entirely by taxpayers, has collected roughly $7 million in government funding since 2017, while paying out at least $830,000 in salaries to Hill, Robinson and other members of their family, tax filings and state documents show.

The income offered the Robinsons a degree of stability after decades of struggle that included multiple bankruptcies, home foreclosure and misdemeanor charges — later dropped — for writing bad checks. In Robinson’s telling, the financial turnaround provided by the organization also allowed for his ascent into the North Carolina government.

^ Won't be impeached = it's OK and won't go to trial, by a lot of republican's beliefs. Could spread the threat to other malcontents, but he'd have to claim he's the king when his term is up. I'd put money on a republican president trying this in the future.
If you get to thinking you’re a person of some influence, try ordering somebody else’s dog around.
