Just Desserts (Just No Sammiches)

RE: Just Desserts (Just No Sammiches)
Worth noting that the shop was not public land as well. when someone owns a building or land, or an internet platform for example, then they have the final say on what it is acceptable to say. If you open your premises up to the public as a business, then (in the UK anyway) you cannot then discriminate based on race, skin colour, ethnicity, or sexual orientation, just as the owners of that company will now have to decide if they want to allow people in wearing t shirts with hate speech on them, but if they do, then it will have to apply to everyone, so a t shirt, for example, claiming Christians are bigoted scumbags. could not then be turned away, does anyone see them going that route?

I think a dress code policy clarification is far more likely.

She may get fired but I'm glad she had personal principles. I doubt the shop takes a position and it's possible the next shift would have served them.

Waiting for the fallout, if any.

I also admire her ethical stance, and they may of course choose to fire her for it, but I wouldn't be too sure. I imagine they already have a dress code policy for customers, or I'd be surprised if they did not. If hate speech emblazoned on clothes does not violate it, they could at least in theory find their premises hosting a Klan gathering, or the local chapter of Nazis. Or as I said earlier t shirts emblazoned with bigotry directed at religious demographics, antisemitic epithets, a cartoon of mohammed?

I doubt they'd want to go in that direction...it seems more likely they will clarify a dress code was enforced.

The jebus groupies hoot and holler, claiming all sorts of bogus nonsense regarding the situation. Yet, the truth is plain to see, godiboi was upset with their behavior, so, godiboi sent a covert angel undercover as a Subway employee.

I doubt it. It's more plausible that it falls under the right to refuse service, not dress code. I can't imagine a dress code that would cover all manner of speech/dress that some might find offensive.

Google offensive t-shirts and get back to me if you find it necessary.

Well a violation of a dress code, would legally justify the right to refuse service, as long as it is applied universally of course, so they're not mutually exclusive. Though I admit I am far from au fait with the relevant laws in the US.

Since these are business premises it wouldn't need to, would it? The company gets to decide what they deem offensive, or not.

We reserve the right to refuse service to anyone for any reason. This is standard throughout the service industry. They were refused service for being dickheads, not for being christers.

Not going to argue for the sake of argument, that's pedantic.

Well I don't think clarifying why a dress code violation might be apropos in this instance is pedantry, though I made it clear I was not au fait with US law on this issue. If you don't want to debate the point then that's not a problem. I just find the topic interesting, and want to explore and understand more about it.
