What do you know today that you didn't know yesterday?

I learned that sea spiders often have the gut and their junk in their legs. And that they're icky.

I was asking Google Gemini who would win in a fight between Jesus and Darth Vader. This was the answer:

Quote:In a direct physical confrontation, Darth Vader would likely defeat Jesus due to Vader's advanced combat training, mastery of the Force, and cybernetically enhanced body. Jesus, as depicted, does not possess comparable offensive or defensive physical abilities.

Then I asked who would win in a fight between Santa Claus and Darth Vader.

Quote:Santa Claus would likely win due to his reality-warping and time/space manipulation abilities, far surpassing Darth Vader's formidable but more conventional Force powers.
teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

Are you familiar with the phrase “The Mother of all X”. It turned out to be both more recent and more ancient than I would have expected.

More recent: it entered English through a translation of a speech by Saddam Hussein warning against what would become the First Gulf War saying “Let everyone understand that this battle is going to become the mother of all battles."

More ancient: it’s apparently a direct translation of an idiom that’s been in Arabic since the Battle of al-Qadisiyyah in 636 AD.

In Nigeria, the bride traditionally keeps a straight face until she’s happy with the amount of money offered to her then the smile begins.

If she’s marrying the Nigerian finance minister, she could be looking at $20 million. All he’ll need is her banking information.

Reading some of the history of the Cathars and their tenets.

Turns out the French branch of the religion, not so much the Italians, were misogynistic vegans.

Perhaps the Catholics did the world a service for once by wiping them out...

None.

Mark is an absolute legend, but I wouldn't spend that sort of money for a simple autographed picture.
