What do you know today that you didn't know yesterday?
RE: What do you know today that you didn't know yesterday?
There are certain vocalists whom I have tried to like but can't because of idiosyncrasies.

Nora Jones. All I hear ish Nora Jonesh. There ish shomeshing about her annunsheeeashun that rubsh me the wrong waysh. You're welcome for thish.

And, sadly, Billie Holliday. I know. Royalty. It's purely the limit of her range. It all sounds the same to me. You may kick me out of jazz band.

And I love Jean Bariste. But he just can't sing. Terrific arranger and pianist, but not a vocalist. I give him credit for giving it a go, but yeah.

Apparently, when a shop is only open one hour a specific day, it’s code for “not open at all that day.”

Today I learned that Oscar winner Joe Pesci once did a guest spot on Sesame Street playing a real estate developer called 'Ronald Grump' who was going to replace 123 Sesame Street with a boutique called If You Have To Ask, You Can't Afford It.

Thanks to 'boda for the education!

I've been researching the Battle of Gettysburg for the past 6 months in preparation to lead a group of friends on a tour of the military park and battlefield. Many sources mention John L. Burns https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_L._Burns , a civilian who grabbed his flintlock musket and served with the Union on Day 1 (July 1, 1863) in the environs of McPherson Ridge and Herbst/Reynold's Woods https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Herbst_Woods . Burns was wounded three times and was captured by Confederates crawling back to his home in Gettysburg. At 69 years old, the Confederates believed his story that he was looking for help for his wife, lost in the chaos of battle. The Confederates dressed his wounds and sent him on his way. Burns was a national hero following the battle and lived to age 78.

Today I learned that the monument to Mr. Burns https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_L._Bu...statue.jpg is modeled after the Minuteman statue at the Concord and Lexington military park https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Minutemen#...ropped.jpg

Thank you to Battlefield Trust for the info.

Nice to know that you're following in the footsteps of the late Ed Bearss.

Seriously, he was the most charismatic talking head in Ken Burns' Civil War.

In English, the verb "to be" has seven conjugations (am, is, are, was, were, being, and been) based on subject and tense.

What about Spanish? There are at least 70, all irregular.

First of all, there are two "to be" verbs; "ser" is used for permanent or inherent characteristics while "estar" is used for temporary states, locations, or feelings.

Like English, Spanish conjugates verbs based on subject and tense, but also by whether one is using the formal "usted" formal form or the gendered informal form (El/Ella) in some cases.

So for the present tense there are seven conjugations of "estar" and seven of "ser":

yo: estoy (I am)
tú: estás (you are - informal)
él/ella/usted: está (he/she/you (formal) is/are)
nosotros/nosotras: estamos (we are)
vosotros/vosotras: estáis (you are - informal plural, used mainly in Spain)
ellos/ellas/ustedes: están (they/you (formal plural) are)

yo: soy (I am)
tú: eres (you are - informal)
él/ella/usted: es (he/she/you are - formal)
nosotros/nosotras: somos (we are)
vosotros/vosotras: sois (you are - informal, plural)
ellos/ellas/ustedes: son (they/you are - formal, plural)

Spanish has 12 tenses, though I believe only 5 are applicable to ser and estar, so it's the above * 5.

2 forms * 7 subjects * 5 tenses = at least 70 distinct conjugation of the verb "to be".

Memorization is your friend. When I didn't get something about math or physics, I just memorized it. Eventually, I just "got it", poof. FWIW, French is worse than Spanish (five "regular" verbs), and I got that too. Are you sure that you want to live in Lithuania? It's going to be worse, there. English is also shit, and basically has to be spoken while growing up, for fluency.
If you get to thinking you’re a person of some influence, try ordering somebody else’s dog around.
