Seems you are very fresh out of the camp Rev. I know it took me years to get over my experience properly. Perhaps 15 years until it really had no influence over me.

In my experience there were no difficulties with the supposed contradictions in the bible. In my understanding what you call something can be interpreted two ways. A lot of what is easily ascribed to God could equally be ascribed to 'not God' or 'chance'. The logic was sound but the interpretation could be loaded.

And then for me belief relies on faith. Belief HAS to be a leap of logic. There is necessarily no demonstrable proof of anything. Of course it is all necessarily personal in nature. I suppose I convinced myself to reject the personal evidence, which is an entirely logical thing to do, given the constricts of the belief.

I think you did an excellent job with that. For what it's worth. You seem to be a pretty centred person to me. Good luck with it all Wink

Didn't know you had a wife though. Is she an atheist too?

Hey there H8tr

No, the wife is not an atheist...she is in limbo I guess. Agnostic or Agnostic Atheist might be the most appropriate term...but she isn't really into defining things. I kind of drug her into the faith (I led her to Jesus when we were still in middle school...hehe) and when I started falling away we didn't even talk about it...she just up and told me one day that she didn't buy the Jesus bullshit anymore...and I was relieved to say the least.

Thanks very much...I constantly struggle for "centeredess" so it's nice to hear that

Stay away from the center! Azagthoth will re-absorb you!

I just have to say I really enjoyed your extimony. I often think that de-conversion should be a goal of atheism but worry that we would turn right into the kind of, agenda having, bastards that some religious people become.

To proselytize or not to proselytize, should I even ask the question?

LMAO Big Grin

You defend your world view: Prostelization happens. The seed is sown. None of us can help it.

Yes if you defend your worldview; I don't. For example, I enjoy smoking marijuana, but I do not proselytize. I see no reason to try to get other people to smoke weed. There is a subtle, but important, difference between telling people about something you believe and proselytizing. I am still on the fence about proselytizing for atheism. People are so happy with their god, I am conflicted about trying to pry that away from them. It would be beneficial for people to let go of specious reasoning and view the world without the reframe job that religion seems to cause.

@RevOxley - I'll have to check out your page, thanks.

You don't defend your worldview on here Rhiz?? You don't correct what appears to be error to you?

Yeah I'm against forcing a point of view onto anyone. I don't see proselytizing as that.
