I never took any martial arts classes because I thought it was not something important for me.
However, I used to watch martial arts films (and still do), and then I used to imitate some of the moves by myself at home.

Ok, i don't know if this has been done before but if i has then please post a link and lock or delete the thread, thanks. ^^

Anyway, does anyone do any MA? I do Shaolin, which atm i'm doing Kung Fu, San Shou (Chinese Kickboxing), and just started Tai Chi (Taiqiquan) all in the same instructor, since he's a Shaolin Monk.

Systema, judo, jiujitsu, Ranger Combatives, all taught by my brother who is top-proficiency in each. And he really, REALLY does not pull punches.

I know an acient Irish martial art called Fuk Yu! It consists of bashing people over the head with a shillelagh.

I used to do MMA for a while after I stopped boxing, but I never trained in anything fancy I just stuck with the things I had picked up from boxing.

Probably for the best. Tbh I've found MMA far superior to the more traditional martial arts.

When I actually got into a real fight and the guy started grabbing me and getting up close I didn't know what to do. Tae Kwon Do for instance is good for kicking people in the head but when they are on top of you like a bear it doesn't really help much.

It makes more sense to me to do MMA because I find it more helpful for real world self defence.

At the TKD school I train at, they've added knife defense and grappling techniques to the training program starting at the intermediate level.

In a real self-defense situation, not having a lot of tools at your disposal will get you owned. I know that I can land a devastating kick on just about anyone (say goodbye to your knee, bro) - IF I can maintain enough separation, which ain't likely to happen in a real fight.
