It's not just a thought, it's a fact. If you don't like it, then that just sucks for you, but it's true whether you like it or believe it.

I think the idea of spending an eternity being a subservient drone-slave to a jealous wretch of a god is one of the most disgusting, horrifying things I have ever heard... but since it's just made up bullshit, I am relieved.

Yay for reality!

I've said it before, but I'll say it again.

...and again and again if needs be.

Why muse on such things? What good does it do to continually contemplate your own death? It's something you cannot control on a schedule you cannot foresee. Pointless.

I will agree with you on one thing. Life is not fair. Some people get to be George Clooney and some of us get to be me. Sorry about your bad luck George. [Image: smilie20whistling_and_rolling_eyes.gif]

I tend to agree with most on here that life is not fair. I like to think that is how character is formed and the betterment of the individual. We can either dwell on them or overcome the thought or situation. Smooth seas never made a skillful sailor so to speak. In my belief its all a test. Things tend to suck quite a bit here and it will be the oppisite on the other side of eternity. just my 2 cents.

If the other side exists of course. Tongue
Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence - Carl Sagan

Mankind's intelligence walks hand in hand with it's stupidity.

Being an atheist says nothing about your overall intelligence, it just means you don't believe in god. Atheists can be as bright as any scientist and as stupid as any creationist.

You never really know just how stupid someone is, until you've argued with them.

Hey, if you prefer to believe in a sky daddy to avoid dealing with reality, be my guest, some of us prefer it to delusion.

But in terms of beauty, I look at the universe with much more awe than your god have ever caused. How beautiful is it, that in the chaotic universe, we have arised, not only alive but with a mind capable of grasping the whole beauty of it. I wouldn't trade this for any promises made by barbaric religionism.

The universe, what could you possibly know about the beauty and wonders of a thing so large, we will never see it all. What makes you think it is a chaotic place, many scientist say it is well organized and by what little I've seen, I would agree. God who created it, saw it come to life and has enjoyed it ever since.
God loves those who believe and those who do not and the same goes for me, you have no choice in this matter. That puts the matter of total free will to rest.

We could arrange to nail you to a fucking cross first, if you think that would help?

What? The old 'suffering enobles', 'no gain without pain 'and "everything happens for a reason" ? Oh please ,those claims are fatuous nonsense as principles.

Suffering MAY be 'character building' (whatever that means) My observation is that usually it is not.

I happen to be blessed with the ability to bear the suffering of others with fortitude, indifference, and at times. pleasure. I handle my own suffering poorly, becoming no fun at all to be around. My own continued suffering makes me really cranky, not stoic.

I also watched my father die by inches,as the person slowly disintegrated with dementia. There was nothing enobling or character building about my father's suffering, for him or those around him. That experience left me livid at the sanctimonious arseholes who prevent voluntary euthanasia laws being passed.

I have seen no proof that the universe is sentient or that there is any guiding intelligence.

Not necessarily a human order . What i meant is that everything follows certain rules . However , those rules are not necessarily made by some powers or gods but still they are considered rules . One way to simplify this is that all of us will die eventually and nobody will grow wings and fly !
