Congratu-fucking-lations 5th.
You said Empire.
Not "Informal Empire".
Nice to move the fucking goalposts.
But I'm used to it. Except for now.
Fuck it.
Empires of old defined the fucking term.
Live with it.
Or pull a fr0d0 and redefine it to fit your oh-so-modern terms.

To be honest, learning about how Henry VIII killed off his wives is far more interesting than American History

Sorry Moros, I meant informal, didn't expect to have to get into the nitty gritty. Take a chill pill or buy more weed.
EDIT: Hold on, I did put informal, end of last sentence in original post. You trolling me?

Must be interesting to live and work in such old buildings. To think of the people who passed through the place. How they lived, the history they saw, etc.
We have some "old" houses in my area. They date to the mid-late 18th century. We go "wow" when we're told how old these places are. But in Europe there are places that are over 1,000 years old! Now that's a WOW!

Yeah it is a little weird, especially when you're ripping bits out, unfortunately that is unavoidable. It's cool to see the changes over the centuries where different builders have been in and done repairs and extentions.

I recall visiting one of these historic houses and the guide pointing out the fibers that were visible in the plaster. She told us that these fibers were horsehair and they helped hold the plaster together. We were amazed that we were touching 250 year old horsehair. Must be something similar when working on a 500 year old house. You're touching things that some builder put in place centuries ago.
Also, I don't know how it is in the UK, but around here most houses from the colonial era are listed on the "historic register". While this sounds nice, it means that the owner can't perform any alterations without government approval. Particularly if the work will remove or damage any of the original structure.

Correct. You're well on your way out of power. It's not so bad.

Being an atheist says nothing about your overall intelligence, it just means you don't believe in god. Atheists can be as bright as any scientist and as stupid as any creationist.
You never really know just how stupid someone is, until you've argued with them.

This. It's a lot more important from the US perspective than the UK.
