Changing Our Password Policy
RE: Changing Our Password Policy
Damn, now I'm thinking of your underpants.

You can fix ignorance, you can't fix stupid.

Tinkety Tonk and down with the Nazis.

I hear you. For some of us, the process is more painful but Tiberius helped me through it and I totally trust his judgement that it is necessary.

I think Tibs could have maybe put a link to his passphrase article on the page to change your password, to give people ideas. But really, it's not that hard...

For me, thinking of a new password is the least of my worries. Remembering my old one when I'm logged on automatically for eons is hard. Then finding out that something called cookies (no, you can't eat them) were preventing me from receiving a new temporary password so that I could finally create a new one. That was hard. Locating these inedible cookies was no piece of cake (sorry, couldn't resist); deciding whether to expunge just the ones related to this site; looking for those; that not working; minor angst involved in deleting all the cookies (what the hell will that do?) .. that's what the experience was about for me.

As a non-computer geek, I like my online experience to remain completely on the surface. It should be about typing, looking shit up, and clicking .. as well as porn of course. But under no circumstances do I wish to 'look under the hood'. If I wanted to look through menus I'd go to a restaurant. Oh well, I survived. And I see I have a second medal now on my posts. If it had to do with negotiating this latest challenge it was certainly well deserved.

God I wish people would get memes.

First world problems.

Oh god! Are memes on the same pull down menu as cookies?

This is one of the most common misunderstandings of passwords. A password is not a dictionary word; in fact, it should never be found in any dictionary on the planet...ever. Ignore the "word" bit of "password" and instead think of them as a secret value that only you know, and that cannot be easily guessed.

Alas, I cannot change the wording, as it appears far too often throughout the site. All I can do is put the limits on what passwords you can choose, which I've done.
