Today, my daughter will mostly be wearing...
RE: Today, my daughter will mostly be wearing...
Lol, indeed ^_^ And why would someone use the ignore button of the forum? Just skip down past their posts if you don't like them, and when they say something good: you'll be able to read it Smile

I would think it would garner him big ups from the congregation for battling mightily against a known evil lurking on teh internets. I am still curious about a "good" source that would define TAG according to how Arcanus understands it. He never did answer me in my "Conversion" thread, I figured one of our other exchanges must have caused him to ignore me or something. *shrug*

Rhizo

He's said recently Rhiz that there is no decent definition, stating that Wikipedia was way out. Adrian asked if he'd help with the Wikipedia definition so we could all learn some.

Fr0d0,

Yeah, I read that but I asked very early on in the "Conversion" thread, in fact right after he mentioned TAG, what a good resource was because I KNEW that when WE brought up a resource it would fail to meet his criteria. There are two reasons for this that spring to mind, either Wiki is truely insufficient (This I can accept very easily) or Arcanus is being dodgy (Probably not the case, he seems sincere and I believe he wouldn't resort to such tactics).

It didn't have to be a web resource either. I read books me. Smile

That's true and theists also have the fundamental belief that there is a god so really the distinction is pointless (Arcanus is wrong).

Kyu

Exactly my point, well put.

If all atheists are fundamentalists because we all have one disbelief, then not just all theists, but every ideology, every ISM, is fundamentalist!, right? And since atheism isn't an ideology, it's just disbelief, then every non ideology is fundamentalist too! Not just atheism! So everyone is a fundamentalist! Someone who doesn't believe in the tooth fairy is a fundamentalist Atoothfairiest! There are uncountable things to disbelieve in, and we're all fundamentalist disbelievers in whatever those things are.

Your response (and others, like Adrian) will have relevance to what I said just as soon as you can point out where I referenced 'atheism'.

Let me save you the bother: I didn't. I described fundy atheists as those who "are fundy about their atheistic views (be what they may)." And they have many views—all of which should be atheistic by definition, one would think. Moreover, there is a difference between 'fundamentalist' (noun) and 'fundy' (adjective), the latter typically serving as a pejorative and clearly what I intended. Judging by the usage of the term, 'fundy' describes bigoted dogmatism—and there surely are atheists who exhibit this.

As I said, "Fundy atheists can and do exist."

I don't expect much would happen. I mean, they know I actively engage atheists in debate. Although I would have to explain that the tagline is from me, of course—lest they think that AtheistForums.org has an official motto that is self-deprecating.

I may have missed it. At any rate, I did provide that very thing, and in that very thread of yours (Msg. #99). It was in response to Adrian, sorry. I missed where you had asked for it. But surely you were following along and saw me provide Adrian with it?

Fundy atheists maybe, but not because they're atheists. They'd be 'fundy' about other things. All you'd be describing is 'Someone who is a fundamentalist about X and also happens to be an atheist', because correlation and causation should not be confused. I don't see what's the point of saying "'fundy' atheists" when they could just as easily be fundy theists, it's just that they don't believe in God. It's got nothing to do with them being atheists.

Indeed EvF:

fundamental |ˌfəndəˈmentl|
adjective
forming a necessary base or core; of central importance : the protection of fundamental human rights | interpretation of evidence is fundamental to the historian's craft.
• affecting or relating to the essential nature of something or the crucial point about an issue : the fundamental problem remains that of the housing shortage.
• so basic as to be hard to alter, resolve, or overcome : the theories are based on a fundamental error.
noun (usu. fundamentals)
a central or primary rule or principle on which something is based : two courses cover the fundamentals of microbiology.
• a fundamental note, tone, or frequency.

Without this base, we could have no logic, no beliefs, no evidence... there could be no construction of theories or faiths... because they would have no base Smile
