You are absolutely correct that the Republican party will have to change for the future. That's been the tendency of political parties for their existence. I do have a question for the people wishing for the death of the Republican party though, are you all really the champions of single party rule?

You mean like the Whigs? The Federalists? The Democratic-Republican Party? The Socialist-Labor Party?

Interesting Idea about Mormons taking some or even a lot of the fallout. Honestly, good. I don't want more of them to "band together".

Now that I go back and reread this, actually I don't think it will necessarily make them go back to hating Mormons - if the fundies of all Christian sects believe that he's a heathen bastard, they're going to still say "better it were a Mormon than the guy we've got now" - at least until the next election.

And I have a feeling they'll be grasping for anything if the numbers of the religious keep dropping.

Kind of pathetic how someone's religious views will change to allow their political views to fit.

We'll know for certain when they start issuing Brown Shirts to "True Conservatives."

They're getting there. My girlfriend snapped a photo of this kid at the VP debate in Kentucky. I dubbed him the "Mittler Youth", because all he lacks is a Sam Browne belt and an armband.
