Meatball said:"How about his ordering of the closing of Gitmo? Setting withdrawl timeline for Iraq? Ending the practice of trumping state laws regarding medicinal marijuana? Giving lobbyists the boot from advisory groups? Turning around the international image of the country? Acknowledging atheists in his inauguration speech? Ending the bans on federal funding for stem cell research? Ending the bans on foreign aid to groups approving of abortion?"
Regarding the closing of Gitmo don't believe the hype we will just move those prisoners somewhere else and it will be business as usual. The timeline for Iraq is unrealistic and whether it will be carried out remains to be seen. whether medicinal marijuana is approved or not it will continue to be available on the streets and some of the approved users might turn to dealers themselves. I agree with the lobbyist decision but the image this president presents to the world is one of weakness. Acknowledging atheists in his inaugural speech, are you serious? That means nothing since atheists are a huge minority. The day I see atheists and Christians holding hands in brotherhood then I might believe Jesus will return on that day. I agree with the stem cell research funding but once again where is all this money coming from? Regarding your last point I also agree it was a good move.
Finally, regarding his healthcare reform bill it was touted at first as universal health care and has morphed as he has had to continue making ammendments to it and stripping away many of its original elements. Besides its high cost which again I have to say where is this money going to come from? There is the horrible thought of government run health care since the expansion of government is not practical. The government rapes citizens such as myself with its taxes on pretty much everything else I would not doubt that this health care package is going to hit our pockets eventually in the form of new taxes created to sustain it.

Exactly what has any president been able to accomplish in its very first year of office? The transition from one government to another takes time, don't expect everything to magically fall into place. The second year in office will be the best grading point for his performance. And lets not forget that Bush had it easy coming into the white house with a 500 million surplus inherited from the previous administration.

So true leo, but my point is that Obamas plans are impractical. Sure, he is good at schmoozing but that is not going to resolve the many crises we find ourselves in. He keeps making promises he cant keep and his false reassurances in his public speeches just make him look like a liar in the public eye. I admit he did inherit one hell of a mess when he took office but he should still be truthful and realistic to the people. Creating false hopes just makes him look like an ass.

If you think a politician is going to be truthful to the general public then you're living in a dream word. No matter who is in office there is always someone that looks at the bad side and ignores the good.

I think it is still far too early to make final judgement on him... he has only been in a year after all. It's hard for me to equivocate him to 8 years of Bush Administration idiocy when he has to recover America from that 8 year crater in our economy.
In the next 3 years... will he be a 'filler' president, or shall he be a revolutionary one? We shall see...
