Would Ace, Bozo, Darwinian or EVF have anything to say about CoxRox's current model for God? (apart from the fact that there is no good reason to believe in it).

What is a god?

Well what is her model for God? Errr, I'd say it basically seems to be a model in the universe of some kind that gives meaning to it - from what she has said on this topic. And then she believes in Jesus as well so I have no idea how you get to that (outside the bible ). And what else does she believe? I have to ask her

What about all the theists who believe stronger and repeatedly don't understand the same arguments. Isn't that wasting our time MORE if anything? Are you suggesting more fundamental believers or other kinds of theists are more welcome? That they are somehow less of a time waster than agnostic theists? Agnostic theists are welcome too you know.EvF, Actually, I can claim whatever I like. You may not agree but that's up to you. I " welcome " anyone who enters here.....providing they can take stick as well as handing it out.
A man is born to a virgin mother, lives, dies, comes alive again and then disappears into the clouds to become his Dad. How likely is that?

And if you piss people off too much there will of course be consequences. So claim what you like but make sure its reasonable, and if you say its reasonable but others don't think so I think you should explain why actually.
There may be no good reason for believing it but it does show that she has an open mind and is experimenting with ideas and concepts.
Unlike many theists she is not 'stuck in a rut' but is constantly asking questions and considering the answers. Personally, I like her and think that some of the points she raises are very interesting, even though I may not agree with them. It shows me that she is an intelligent person who's ideas and philosophy are constantly evolving, just like me! (December 6, 2008 at 9:37 pm)EvidenceVsFaith Wrote: Well what is her model for God? So she'll either have to reject Jesus, modify Jesus, or modify her "god". I'm hoping she'll go with the first option. Nothing against Jesus as a person (although he had some crazy ideas), but believing that he was anything more than a normal man seems a little absurd to me.
I agree with darwinian. She is a great member. She brings up ideals and posts that I enjoy reading. Even if I don't agree with her views.
Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence - Carl Sagan
Mankind's intelligence walks hand in hand with it's stupidity. Being an atheist says nothing about your overall intelligence, it just means you don't believe in god. Atheists can be as bright as any scientist and as stupid as any creationist. You never really know just how stupid someone is, until you've argued with them. And as one would expect, her questioning and speculation has lead her far, far away from the standard christian view of God I'd be fine with her going down this pantheistic route. It doesn't seem harmful, just a little pointless, as there is no reason to believe it. Next step- ask her why she would subscribe to this view with no evidence. Not being reasonable as to whether you believe in God or not . Just in case you misunderstood me? Or were you not talking to me? I think CR is open minded too, I think its very good of her. Its very important to be open and honest, inquisitive, etc. |
