It really scares me.

(This post was last modified: January 13, 2014 at 11:46 pm by Vegamo.)
After becoming a full blown atheist/agnostic (We don't know whats behind the big bang, so it's all speculation from here who knows we could be an alien's lab project)
Like any atheist (a well functioning one not a dumb one), once you link all the dots together and it clicks in your head, you start telling other's because you have taken many scientific ideas and intertwined them into the belief of randomness.
Randomness? Life is random.
Like a bowling game, depending on what angle the ball hits from, results will happen.
So why am I scared? How come there's not many people who think this way? Are people really that ignorant? Or is it lack of education? Is it parents?
I think parenting and their social circle (with the addition to lack of education) leads to religions being predominant around the world.
And I tell you what, it creeps me OUT! We are not that incapable of seeing something that's RIGHT IN FRONT OF OUR FACE!

Like a bowling game, depending on what angle the ball hits from, results will happen. I fail to see the connection. Depending on what angle the ball hits from, the results will differ. The pins don't just fly off at random, though it may appear that they do, if you ran all of the math you could tell with reasonable certainty where each pin would go and at what speed.
As for the post overall, while I would not say that I am 'scared' or 'creeped out' at religious adults, I am sometimes absolutely bewildered at some of the things people believe. Creation Museum, anyone? :Shudder:

I find undirected happenstance disasters more comforting than the idea that it could all be caused by a being who does it out of malice, or could avert it but chooses not to.

I'm not at all clear about what it is you find so frightening. Too many past posters claiming to be atheist who are worried about this or that aspect of atheism and wondering how we all sleep at night. Are you one of them?

Well someone is not seeing what is right in front of their face but it is a question of who. It's best to at least be open to the possibility of being the one who is wrong and it show you're able to think for yourself rather than just leap to a conclusion.
On the subject of evolution you do realize the process only occurred because the universe was perfectly arranged for the process to occur in the first place? You're saying that's random but do you have more than your own personal opinion here? If you don't you may want to pull back a bit from the kind of stance you're taking.
Come all ye faithful joyful and triumphant.

"Perfectly arranged" is a rather loaded phrase, no? I understand why a theist would say this, but the implied "arranger" is an unsupported assertion.
I would say instead that the universe does not preclude evolutionary processes under certain local conditions.

That's kind of the idea, these local conditions exist because the universe is precisely set in such a way for these local condition to exist in the first place, matter, planets, stars, galaxies all the necessary elements and so on. As far as the creation of life and civilization is concerned that's all God needed to do you just have to set the ball rolling, all the natural processes in motion. This doesn't have to be deism either as there would be nothing stopping this intelligence behind the creation of the universe from revealing himself to the creatures he intentionally made. I'll grant you that it's still technically possible that all of this was an immense fluke of pure blind coincidence but we're going to disagree on whether it actually is.
Come all ye faithful joyful and triumphant.

I'm not sure but was it Carlin who said: Think of how stupid the average person is, now realise that half of them are stupider than that.

'You can have all the faith you want in spirits, and the afterlife, and heaven and hell, but when it comes to this world, don't be an idiot. Cause you can tell me you put your faith in God to put you through the day, but when it comes time to cross the road, I know you look both ways.' - Dr House
