Any Vegetarians/Vegans here?
RE: Any Vegetarians/Vegans here?
Several people here say that human being are omnivores.
Very strange indeed.
If that is true then why humans salivate for a ripe fruit and not for raw meat.
A cat would do that but not a human being.
One more thing.
Our digestive system is long about 12 times our body lenghth while the one of a carnivorous animal is only 3 times his body length.
This is due to the fact that meat goes bad very quickly so it need to stay in the digestive system only for a short time.
Not only that but carnivorous animals have a very strong hydrochloric acid which is about ten times as non-carnivorous animals.
Carnivorous animals sweat through their tongues unlike non-carnivorous which perspire through their skin.
The carnivorous have sharp claws, powerful jaws and pointed elongated canine.
They haven't got molars that vegetarian animals need for grinding their food.
Humans have really nothing to do with meat eating no wonder hospitals are full of sick people. Cool Shades

Because we're omnivores, not carnivores and not herbivores. If we were herbivores wouldn't you expect our digestive system to match theirs?

The WIN/Gallup End of Year Survey 2013 found the US was perceived to be the greatest threat to world peace by a huge margin, with 24% of respondents fearful of the US followed by: 8% for Pakistan, and 6% for China. This was followed by 5% each for: Afghanistan, Iran, Israel, North Korea. -LINK

Gee, you must live in a dream land boy.
Since man is man there has always being an exchange of not only food but of everything else and this trend will go on for ever as some countries are rich in something but poor in something else.

Quote:Now the fact is that many countries like the UK have populations way higher than they are able to feed from their own stocks. As you might see in one of my links in the previous post, we export about 45% of our beef. Much of it to the USA and the UK, but also to PNG, Indonesia, etc.

With all the rain that you got you certainly will not lack a lot of green grass to feed animals. Lucky boy.Smile

Quote:So I actually agree that people in the UK and USA should eat less beef until they can be self-sufficient (this is far more realistic with the USA than the UK which will never be self-sufficient, unless they're willing to accept negative population growth for the next 80 years)

Yeah, just try to tell a junkie to stop using drugs.
He will spit in your face.
Meat eating can become a filthy habit same as drug using.

Quote:If you assholes could actually feed yourself, then perhaps we could actually look into feeding people who are starving and dying of malnutrition in the 3rd world countries with our food instead of fat Americans addicted to hamburgers.

The only way to feed everybody is to drastically reduce the meat consumption but try to tell this to a junkie. Smile

Our digestive system is almost the same as fruit eating animals and thousand of miles away from carnivorous.
Try to work out what this means. Cool Shades

Once again, you don't know what you are talking about.
The fact that we can digest meat proves we are omnivores

Yea you are totally right, I often sneak onto a random farm and kill cows and feast on their raw bloody flesh until I am physically unable to eat another bite. I also steal from friends and family members to fuel my addiction.

Just in case you can't tell Enrico, that was sarcasm
To equate eating meat, with being addicted to elicit drugs is fucking stupid.

Links?
I thought not.
Of course our digestive system is similar to plant eating animals in some ways, because humans eat plants. Our digestive system is also similar to carnivores because humans also eat meat.

Stop talking about subjects in which you have no expertise at all.

It's also not the same as a herbivore's digestive system. You know why this is? We're omnivores. If we weren't omnovires we wouldn't have the ability to digest meat properly. It would make us sick. Clearly, billions of people manage to eat meat and not die from it, so we're not herbivores.
As omnivores, we have this wonderful ability to choose what we eat. If you, like me, don't want to eat meat, you don't have to. Why you feel the need to be a dick about it and tell other people what they should or shouldn't eat, despite it being none of your fucking business, is beyond me.

We're also primates. We manage to resist the urge to swing in trees, though.

Humanity is at a moral crossroads: do we use our intellect and understanding to overcome those evolved traits which cause in us a tendency to do harm to other animals, or to the environment? Or do we use our intellect to fully subject all the world to our instincts, maximizing human life without regard to our impact on the world?

I think we should use the intellect to identify and overcome the baser instincts which drive us. I see no nobility in embracing harm as necessary, when we've made so little effort to reduce or eliminate it.

I think it is quite common misconception by vegans that humans are herbivores, though mostly in response to nonsense appeals to nature by meat eaters. Physiologically we have many adaptions to allow us to eat an omnivorous diet, for example in the example you gave above about our gut, it is not 12 times the length of our bodies, but at around 7.5 to 10 m, is around 5-6 times the length of body. This is exactly between that of carnivores and herbivores, and is similar in length to many other omnivores. However humans have evolved to be able to choose what we eat and develop technology/science to allow us to eat a vegan diet that has many health, ethical and environmental advantages. This ability to choose seems just as natural to me as any physiological adaptations we have evolved, so to say it is natural for humans to be omnivores or herbivores is really to misunderstand what these terms mean.

If people are doing something unethical and it impacts on the well being of others against their wishes, would you not say that other people have a duty to protect those that cannot protect themselves? I know you might not agree about whether animals deserve this protection too, but vegans and vegetarians certainly do. We do not do it to be 'dicks', but out of a sense of compassion and duty. I think if more people acted out of these motivations the world would be a better place.

Yeah like religious people right? That's what they do. It's all out of compassion and duty. Maybe you should go to church now.

Definitely! But unless you start eating other people against their wishes, what you eat has absolutely no impact on the well being of others, so butt out.

This is a lie that makes sane vegetarians look bad. I'm a vegetarian who occasionally "goes vegan." I certainly don't agree.

Nope. It's definitely just being dickish. Where's your "sense of compassion and duty" toward other human people? Food is a basic right, and animals are food for most people. Killing for food isn't like killing for sport or pleasure. It's natural, and for people in poorer parts of the world, it's absolutely essential.

Food is a basic right. Killing animals is unnecessary. It is definitely for pleasure since you can get everything through not eating meat. people eat meat because they like the taste not because they need it. half a Billion hindus do just fine without it
Some may call them junk, I call them treasures.
