My mother and stepfather live in Stirling, Perth! My son and I were last there Xmas 2012. Great place to visit.

My son is also an aspie. It is a great place.... pity about the sand. Zen and I are a bit further NOR from Stirling.

It seems you chose your residence poorly. Should have come over to Portugal, where people just don't give a hoot about your church going habits; the weather is great (except in those few occasions when it's not), the food is awesome and healthy and the politicians are out to get us!... oh, sorry, that's the same everywhere, huh?

Personal opinion is that most people would be able to identify with Asperger's Syndrome. BUT!

There are some for whom this Syndrome actually interferers with just general living.

So just how do you cope, and adapt?

With my son, it is an ongoing process that has incorporated the expertise of Autism Australia WA. He is doing very well (at 24 years of age), has a circle of friends, a low demand job and gets himself out and about in the community.

The "de-briefings" get me down a bit but it his way of coping and sorting out what he has done that day.

I can only hope you have such a support system in place.

Well, I have to learn social skills that come naturally to other people. I was once asked if I was alright when I went up to the counter to buy something, simply because I was so awkward. Thankfully I am getting better with that. One my other issues is I tend to offend people & then be unable to give a fuck, which does not endear me to anyone.

So are you getting any help with the coping skills? Is there any organisations in your local area?

My son has been a 24 year project for me and I had the support of the family in getting him able to cope with things like large family gatherings and shopping.
