That picture with what seems to be a trapdoor spider gives a completely false impression of Australia.The tiny blue ringed octopus is far more dangerous. Not many people die from its sting,but most wish they had.

Generally our native fauna are far too stupid to be dangerous. Usually if you pet one the worst that will happen is that it will piss on you and give you fleas. Crocodiles are an exception,but the risks are still exaggerated,as can be seen from the photo below.

Well, I live about 500 metres from a creek.Although I've seen kolas and kookuburras, I can't actually remember ever seeing a crocodile and the last time I saw a wild snake was in 1958..

Yes,we DO get some rather large sharks of our suburban beaches and they DO bite a leg off the odd surfer,mistaking it for a penguin. However,I ignore 'em. Last time I went swimming in the sea was in 1974.





Below is a photo of the closest I've come to a native animal in a very long time; the animal is a QUOKA .Taken on Rottnest Island, just off the coast of Perth, Western Australia, in in 1989.

Sorry pad...what you have there is a wallaby....I am thinking that quokkas are a bit smaller, nose seems a bit narrower as in below....

The Spider is a Sydney Funnel Web Female....they REALLY ARE quite nice...at a distance. It's the males that piss me off....bloody come into your bedroom @ 01:00am rearing up at you cos all they want to do is mate.

Suffice to say that Australia IS a very dangerous place and nothing like Europe (which has it's own range of problems). The FACT is Australia is proof that there is no god ...well in my books anyway.
