What he's selling "hope" is no different to Avon selling face cream to make you look younger.
It just makes people feel good. Like buying a worthless lottery ticket.

His logic is that if they're foolish enough to believe in imaginary beings, then pulling a few greenbacks out of them should be a piece of cake. (And usually is)
