Welcome aboard.

Don't I know it. ROFLOL

Thanks for the welcome!
Luke: You don't believe in the Force, do you?

Han Solo: Kid, I've flown from one side of this galaxy to the other, and I've seen a lot of strange stuff, but I've never seen *anything* to make me believe that there's one all-powerful Force controlling everything. 'Cause no mystical energy field controls *my* destiny. It's all a lot of simple tricks and nonsense.

Yeah well your mother was a hamster.

..the last time I was in a Catholic church I was photographing my sister's friends' wedding. Apparently my sister (bridesmaid) was not allowed communion one time during the wedding prep ceremonies even though she went through some Confirmation course at her Lutheran church.
For the actual wedding however, she had been given exclusive access! To take communion. My lil heart was proud beyond words when they called for the wedding party to come take communion and my sister stayed right where she was at.

I think Catholics are the absolute most self righteous human beings in the Christian religion--and quite possibly the world, no less.
If I were to create self aware beings knowing fully what they would do in their lifetimes, I sure wouldn't create a HELL for the majority of them to live in infinitely! That's not Love, that's sadistic. Therefore a truly loving god does not exist!

Quote:The sin is against an infinite being (God) unforgiven infinitely, therefore the punishment is infinite.

Dead wrong.  The actions of a finite being measured against an infinite one are infinitesimal and therefore merit infinitesimal punishment.

Quote:Some people deserve hell.

I say again:  No exceptions.  Punishment should be equal to the crime, not in excess of it.  As soon as the punishment is greater than the crime, the punisher is in the wrong.

Most of the Catholics I knew, however, were only there for Christmas and Easter and believed what they wanted from the Bible while ignoring or downplaying the parts of the Bible/Church that made them uncomfortable. In other words, like most religious human beings, they were cafeteria theists instead of being COMPLETELY blinded by "faith."

Explain what you mean, please?

The way you described them is a lot harsher than what I was insinuating!
If that's how you feel, then your Exodus is long overdue!

Welcome to the land of the free..!

Ah, I understand now. Indeed, it does feel like the land of the free...except for the rare occasions where I really DO have to rely on myself for forgiveness instead of the other people in my life (which is the only other source seeing as I've eliminated the imaginary one), but can't seem to provide it. And I tend to be very self-critical.

I chose that name because, even though I came out as an atheist to my parents about two years ago (who were definitely not upset despite raising me as Roman Catholic) I have to walk on eggshells around religious topics around my parents, friends, and especially girlfriend, and frustration is often inescapable. And so I watch and hopefully will get a chance to snipe at the stupidity of religious extremists from the shadows, really let em have it, you know? All while meeting some pretty cool people.

Again, this is still so very weird to me that being an atheist is something you have to 'come out' about.

Welcome along Great
