My new Blackberry

Ok, so I've just bought a Blackberry Curve 8900 smartphone. One of the things that I was quite keen to play with was the built-in gps system. However, try as I might I can't find it anywhere. Does anyone else have one of these phones and if so, what do I have to do to use gps. Do I need to buy an app or something??

Oh dear...a blackberry.

I hope you didn't intend doing development for it, that's all I can say. I have no idea how to turn the GPS on I'm afraid; blackberries don't tend to be very user friendly. It might be in the settings though.

Iphone 32gb 3gs is the only way to go.

I think mine is possibly one of the coolest tings I've ever owned.

The iPhone is too expensive at the moment for a contract phone; plus it also doesn't have a very good development platform.

One of my associates who boards here has a Droid phone and is developing an application for in-field blood testing using the Droid as the control unit. He loves the damn thing and tells me that Droid is more powerful than the iPhone, more open and easier to develop for and is cheaper to maintain.

If anything, I'd go Droid right now.

Android is far more powerful than the iPhone, that is for sure. With the iPhone, you have one device, handled by one company. It's going to be limited by the number of phone upgrades that company does. With Android, you have an OS that can be put on a multitude of phones.

HTC are the big company who make most of them (and they make a lot), but other companies like Samsung are starting to put Android on their phones (Samsung Galaxy Portal is pretty good). The other great thing about Android is that it is free and open development, whereas to develop for the iPhone you have to pay a fee for the SDK, as far as I am aware.

That's the problem with Apple. They are too proprietary. They are innovative, sure, but once they come out with a new product, all you have to do is wait a year or so and other companies will have not only improved upon it, but opened it up to third parties and open source apps. I can't wait for the Google/Droid version of the iPad. It's going to blow Apple out of the water, much like the Droid phone has with the iPhone.

Iphone apps have to be approved by Apple, so they are basicly censored. I would go with Android all the way.
