JG Ballard is the author of the novel Crash, which was the basis for David Cronenberg's motion picture Crash.

A favorite of mine, but not for everybody. People sexually aroused by car accidents . . .. .

Crash was vigorously denounced as pornography and anti-pornography. Thinking

Among other sex acts, a gaping leg wound was utilized as a functional vagina, Cronenberg is a god of film making.

I think it was Ebert who noted the movie felt as though it were made by aliens that misconstrued America's love of cars and and their love of sex.

I find the internal consistency of Crash in regards to the characters development thru the film as why it works as a movie. Ebert noted Cronenberg understood people in real life were not sexually aroused by horrific car accidents, I think the consistency in the characters motivation, progression, and culmination is the key.

Funny so many religions never achieved that level of consistency in their pantheons of gods, saints, prophets and seers.

I saw a VERY different movie that was called Crash. There was no leg wound vaginizing or anything like that.
