This is what make you S.P.E.C.I.A.L.

Here's my question: what does having well-populated settlements DO? I can't see that it improves anything except just saying, "Oooh. . . 13 settlers!"

Not sure. I think your stores earn more.

On a side note: I am using Strong as a companion instead of Dogmeat, and I am constantly mistaking him for a Super Mutant and shooting him. He has jumped scared me twice, swinging my super sledge at him wildly. Hope he doesn't haul off and abandon me.

About Dogmeat - in both of the games I started, his name is just Dog. Both of the characters are female (old habit from Fallout 3, for the perk that gives bonus damage against the opposite sex - since most Raiders were male, it was a no brainer).

Thought it was kind of strange.

It may be just something for people who enjoy building for it's own sake. I actually have been spending more time scrounging for stuff to build with than killing things.

Give Mama Murphy some Jet or Mentats. She'll tell you about Dogmeat.

Ah, I already told her she had to ditch the junk. I don't think I'll get that option now.

Make you some caps, scavenge you some junk, be another place to sell your stuff and fix you up. It's a personal preference whether or not to mess with them beyond the quests.
